Ovechkin may try out new Oakley mirrored style visor

Recommended Posts

Well said JR. Guys like Robert Lang look like they are going slow because of thier size. But when you watch them compared to another skater you see just how efficient thier stride is.

Think about it...ever hear of those "effortless" strides?

viktor kozlov is said to have that "effortless" stride. i still dont think he gives any effort, but thats not the point.

from what i've seen of ovey, he's similar to Bure in that he can accelerate to top speed on a dime, and thats how he beats defencemen outside. he has a exceptionally strong base, but his actual top speed isnt as fast as other skaters. he also floats to centre to get a head start on most plays :P

Put a puck on the guy's stick and he'll be faster than anyone without it ;) haha that visor looks great I think. As do the uniforms!

He doesn't float that much in the games I've seen. He may stretch his shifts a little long but he works his ass off.

does anyone know why ovechkin doesnt like the catapult. he used it earlier in the game then switched to the "old" 10.0.

He has been snapping them like twigs all season. When he first got them, he didn't like the feel, and it put him into one of his goalscoring droughts for 6 or 7 games.

He changed back, and started scoring

He started the game with it because its an opportunity to showcase it for CCM, but went back to the old one because its what he prefers.

I don't understand why they don't make up the old ones to look like the catapault

Did anyone else notice AO changing his skates after his first shift??

He started the game wearing a pair of black V10s with black holders and then once he got off he was handed a a different pair of black V10s with white tuuks which he wore for the rest of the game

Again probably marketing, the V10 SE are being released with the Black CCM holders, but Ovey skates normally with the Tuuks, so he probably just had to wear them out for the start, sponsorship contract stuff I would think

That blue visor is definetly an Ovie special. I doubt very much Oakley will drop a special edition visor like that but if they did I'd be first in line for one. That visor is UNREAL. If oakley is smart enough they'll put it out there. CCM is Oakley's hockey distributor and CCM ran the Ovie SE line so that may influence Okaley to make the visor....very doubtful though. It would be sick if they made a similar visor to that with maybe a red or chrome mirror finish to it.

I would imagine it makes little sense to develop it for one person. It will probably be released with the rest of the 07 stuff. Just a guess from me, but no point going out of your way to develop something, have it approved by the league and showcase it at the allstar game just to have it available to only one person.

I'll stick with my cage though. Someone with my skill (or lack thereof) wearing on of those at the rink would rightly deserve a stick to the chops for immense douchebaggery.

Also, cage protects my head, and I need all the protection

Yeaa, who has ever heard of NHL players having their own customized gear just for their use? Considering the fact that almost every player has specialized equipment that never makes it out to the market, I guess it's pretty rare.

Any word on why he switched back?

Was brodeur blaming his poor performance on ovechkin's visor!?

This is a little blurb in the hockey news this week (just arrived yesterday, the one with Tavares on the cover), that says he was meant to continue wearing it, but got pressure from the league offices about wanting to see his face for marketing.

Apparently only putting his face on 3 national games is great marketing, but woe betide a tinted visor, thats sure to make fans not see him!!

That sucks. That was part of my theory of why he took it off at the beginning of the season too.

Too be honest, I think it would be a lot cooler to market him like a machine. I mean if you can't see the guy's eyes, he'd look like robocop in that new CCM bucket.

Like when the caps played vancouver earlier this season, after coming off a game he got hit hard and was helped of the ice.

Reporters asked "how do you feel"

His response "Russian Machine, never breaks"

Thats your marketing right there NHL, you bunch of donkey slappers
