What really happened with "Vote for Rory"

But come on this is an all-star game, we need the best and greatest players out there. If we wanted to have a goon show game, heck we could have laraque and a bunch of guys like him out there.

People care way too much about this. I'm all for those that are deserving because of intangibles, rather than statistics, being in the game, but Fitzpatrick is just terrible.

yeah he doesnt really bring a whole lot of anything at all.

i mean, i could see maybe pushing for someone who blocks alot of shots, or a lot of hits.. but c'mon having rory in the allstar game is kinda silly.

All the sports networks are saying how bad this is and how it a distraction and how it ruins the game. Then stop talking about it and giving it publicity. I swear for like a week everyday tsn or sportsnet would talk about it

agreed.

But it's not like Rory would have been the only undeserving guy in the allstar game. It's just a popularity contest, picking the best players has nothing to do with it.

I personally think this a bad all-star showing. I really think the NHL has gone out of its way to promote the "Young Stars of the New NHL". Don't get me wrong, every player on each roster is good in their own right. But I want names. I want hooplah. No offense, but Andy MacDonald, Jason Williams, and Brian Campbell do nothing for me. In a few years, yes. Now? Not quite the "Star Power" I expect for an All Star game.

Campbell has been very very good over the last couple years. He's one of the top offensive defensemen in the game and not bad in his own end either. My question marks are Guerin, Nash, Zetterberg, Bouwmeester and Rafalski.

Guerin was only there because they needed a st. louis representative and also because he was on the 1999 stars stanley cup team; note the loud applause for him. Rafalski is a question makr for me. Nash is undoubtably an amazing player but his stats weren't there this year. Boumeester is a young gun and there aren't too many really young defenseman that are promising. I don't know about campbell being a great offensive defenseman though. He hasn't impressed me that much in what I've seen. As for Yanic Perrault, he absolutley deserves to be there. I love when guys like him get in. He is having a great year and it's going relativley unknown as is the rest of the Coyotes franchise. He is probably one of the best face-off guys in the nhl right now and in the recent history too. There's a few guys that probably should have been there. Justin Williams??? Even Eric Staal, although he is a good player the numbers aren't there. Also just to add...No friggen way is Campbell a starter for the All Stars, I don't care that I am a Toronto Fan Boy, Tomas Kaberle has 11 more points than he does tied with Souray for the most as a defenseman. Kovalchuk, Jagr, Sundin, Afinoganov all had better numbers than Gagne, Staal, Blake and Williams.

Guerin only arrived in dallas in 2002, he wasnt on the cup winning team.
