Group Bulk Buying?

Recommended Posts

I did a search, didn't see that it was proposed before. I know car forums do it all the time. Plus their are a lot of connections on the board, LHS owners and such, with the car forums manufacturers would offer discounts for 5+ 10+ 20+ etc. The more people in the bigger the discounts. I'm not sure if its feasible with hockey stuff. But figure its worth mentioning.

I'm sure there are 5-10+ people on this board that want to buy at least one stick, find them and then see if you can place an order.

If a LHS owner could chime in it that would be great. I know the sticks are expensive but I'm not sure how much the markup is?

For example maybe the LHS are getting sticks at 100 and selling them for 130.... you get 10 people to buy and they will sell them for 115... or something.

Now if you could get right in with with the Manufacturer, your going to save more.

We got hooked up with a magazine deal and a skate stone thing for MSH members

Yeah, that is another form, some companies would even give the whole forum a discount by just mentioning the name or putting in a discount code.

My store handles group buys just like team orders or team bids. Usually we have the person gather a list of everything their looking for and bring it in. After that ill check the availability of the items and what we have in stock. Standard discount is usually around 10-15% depending on what your buyings. Sometimes its even more, just depends on the items your looking for. I know for one piece sticks our mark up isnt that high so for us to give 10% off a OPS is pretty good.

yeah, there might be an issue with a few people backing out and someone will have to cover it.

On gsbb they had a group order of white goalie pant shells. It seemed to work out well but it also was only like $50 a person instead of $100 or more.

I'd be in for some rh prospal clone blades or sticks but besides that it'd be hard pressed to find something that I want that I don't already have access to.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not interested in organizing one. I'm broke 8-(. I just wanted to bring up this opportunity if it hadn't been explored before on this board. I know it worked with good success on other forums (car forums).

Perhaps it could bring a lot of business to a LHS owner as well.

Ive thought about it and the only thing I can really think of is inline wheels or sprung frames that would even be possible to do a large order on. Other than that I think most are better off getting the stuff for themselves.

While group buys are great for customers, there sometimes a pain for LHS. I dont mind doing them one bit but depending on the items its sometimes a PITA to gather everything up and crunch the numbers. Its a great way for us to try and unload some product but on the other hand sometimes it means i have to do a lot of ordering.

We may do special items as site fund raisers in the future but I don't see us endorsing any shop with a group purchase program.
