decent jobs...

Warehouse job. It's repetitive and hard at times but I make 17 bucks an hour. Any of the huge warehouses will be open 24/7, so you have flexibility of when you want to go in. I'm unionized and hired on permanently, so I can go in whenever I want for however long I want. IE, school on Fridays for me doesn't start untill 1, so I can go into work ater I get home on Thursday at 3, and work from 4-12:30 or 1:30AM and still be fine to go to school the next day.

LHS, great deals on everything especially if you know the owner well.

You'll be lucky to make $9/hr at a hockey store, and I'm guessing he's going to want to spend his money on more than just hockey stuff. At 17 bucks an hour working a lofty 15 hours a week when I'm in school I get a 450 dollar paycheque every 2 weeks, 900 bucks a month. I can buy a new OPS every week and still have a lot left over.

Grocery warehouses are the best because the work isn't overly hard, it's always there, and the pay is usually good.

Busboy...? If you get in at the right place you can make some decent money...

When I was 17 I was pulling $300/week cash in tips along with my minimum wage paycheck.

dont know where you're at, but try breaking into the warehouse business but in a store. the bigger the store the better

things like, rei, sports authority, copeland

they dont mind taking kids in the warehouse since you dont have to deal with customers, and you move up the pay ladder QUICK, if you put your muscle into it

that shouldn't be a problem though, we play hockey right? ;)

I back food service jobs for a number of reasons. First, you get free food. Even if they're dicks about it, you can still have some decent grub that otherwise goes unused and tossed. Next, if you're in a kitchen, you'll learn skills you can use for life. I know my way around the kitchen because of past kitchen gigs. Also, when you're in a kitchen during a busy Saturday night dinner hour, then you know what pressure, quick thinking, teamwork, and stamina is all about. Sounds like hockey!

I think they want 18+ at many of those jobs because often forklifts and box crushers and even just razor blades need to be used and for legal reasons they need legal adults to use any of the aforementioned things. I had a friend that worked at a grocery store when he was like 16 and he wasnt allowed to use a box cutter because of his age.

Sales is good.

I am a really good salesman and litterally double my already good hourly and then some. Only problem is that I hate sales. I am aiming for a higher position where I don't deal with customers as much, but my manager wants me on the floor because I'm the best in the store.

My favorite job was working for a hotel. I did all my homework and laundry on shift so I could have a social life off the clock (this was during college).

I'll vouch for warehouse. If you can get an in for shipping stuff, thats the way to go. When I was 16, I used to bounce from car dealership to car dealership when their parts inventory came along. I would work about 20 hours @ $20 a week.. not bad.

well, Im open to anything, but prefer inside

a long time ago, while I was in high school... I put in drop ceilings over the summer full time. while installing ceiling tiles isn't the most luxurious of trades to learn.. it's nice to learn a craft you could someday do yourself (I've done at least 3 dozen houses for friends and family.. and plan to do my own abode someday).

Are you in any sort of vocational school? HVAC is pretty prosperous from what I gather.

What is wrong with finding a little hottie and becoming her agent in porn? B) B)

Seriously though- Food service is good because you always get a little cash at the end of the shift-helps you save a bit better but you dont get fat paychecks. If you go that route look at the better resteraunts in your locale though. Tips generally go with the demographics.

Do you have a UPS store or something similar around? My kid worked at one for 2 years and learned a lot about customer service plus made $10 an hour. Really flexible on the schedule which worked well with school.

Warehouse work is heavy work starting at the entry positions-money isnt that great but you will stay in shape!

Landscape type work- Decent money but you WILL work for it. Usually temporary (Summer) work and hard, dirty work.

What are your potential career goals?

Try to get work in that field if it is possible. One of my classmates in high school had a want to be a Lawyer. He was able to get in to a well established firm as a gopher (Gopher this-gopher that)as a summer job and it paid off well.

He had great money through high school and college and the lawyers in the firm helped him alot through law school. They were also able to get him some really good funding for school.

They offered him a position as soon as he passed the Bar exam and has become a full partner in the firm.

His "Summer" job turned into a VERY lucrative proffesion.

I agree much with this. If you have an idea of a profession, try and get a foot in the door now. Finding a job after college is a real b*tch, except for the people who were smart enough to do something like interning. Planting oyurself now could be best for you.
