How old are you? Assuming somewhere in High school? Try getting a job at your rink. Maybe skate guard if they make you, but just get a staff shirt and do whatever they tell you. You'll meet alot of good hockey players and cool people that way.

I'd go somewhere that can get you tips. Try a coffee house or something like because at the very least you're going to have some decent clientele/co-workers to hunt.

More than likely it won't pay anything to work at a shop, so unless he gets a nice discount on gear it wouldn't be worth it since he needs money for gear. You need something with tips.

PIAS= Play it Again Sports

Most of my hockey teammates work at the local boston pizza, waiting tables and in the kitchen.

I work at UPS, aka box stacker extrodinare. The job blows but I make $9.50 an hour + full benefits. Bring in around $150 a week and im looking at a promotion soon that will double my take home pay. Ive been there for 5 months, so you can move up the ladder pretty quickly if you work at it.

Although I made the mistake of thinking money was better then everything. Worry about school, then hockey. Im twenty and I blew off highschool, cared more about my jobs and now im shit out of luck as far as college goes. I can only whore my way in via community college and i'll be two years behind. :rolleyes:

Tips are definitely key to a decent income as a kid. Look for fancier restaurants and apply for a busboy position. You can get an alright wage and even make a percentage of the servers' tips. I was a part time busboy in college and made more per hour than I do now in my first job out of college. <_< ...I'm being paid in experience right now, but experience doesn't buy me new hockey gear!

Exactly. Not sure how it is from state-to-state but a buddy of mine would bus at a nicer hotel's restaurant. They were union, so he got a decent wage plus tips given out to him by the servers. I don't think he ever cashed a cheque and just used tip money to buy stuff. Then again we have a huge tourism factor going.

Being from Massachusetts.... I yearn to visit a "Boston Pizza"... haha.

I dunno, back home I'll help out at our pub and even then I make decent tips. Then again, drunk Irish (cue redundant jokes) people always make for great customers.

lots of feedback, thanks for the help. i never really thought about the busboy position as a prosperous teen job, but upon hearing about the tips received at classier restaurants my opinion has started to change. too bad i hadnt learned about this position earlier, i guess its because in the area that i live, kids are more concerned with not crashing their H3's in the school parking lot then not relying on daddy to have bottomless pockets.

Job with tips would be great, if you were a woman. My girlfriend would work like 3 hours a day and make $60 in tips.

Its easier for girls obviously, they just put on the Hooters act and they;re golden. That doesn't mean a guy can't do it the same way, you just have to be selective with tables. Its just something you learn, which table will obviously tip and the cheapskate tables that have no intention of breaking a $10 bill.

Although this girl I worked with in high school got a $100 bill from a Canadian for a $12 bar tab. Guy said "Keep the change, I can't use the American cash at home" :rolleyes: Pretty obvious what the guy wanted, he didn't get it but she got a nice payday.

Landscaping business's would love HS guys becuase we dont expect much pay. Its pretty hard work and doesnt require alot of brians but alot of places could use you.

Although I bet it would only be a summer job depending on where you are.

Sounds exactly like where I live. I work as a floor guard and make ok money but I would also defiantly suggest working at a restraint.

Landscaping is defintiely decent money, but you work hard for it. Don't be afraid to ask for decent money either. The owners make a decent buck. $13/hour minimum cash
