what are the pro's and con's of using nylon for gloves rather than leather or synthetic leather? is it just lighter, or is it more durable as well? the only nylon gloves i've seen where i live are on all the low end, cheap gloves and it doesn't seem like it'd hold up at all...maybe its a different nylon or sumthing

There is a difference in the nylon that you see on cheap gloves and the ballistic nylon mainly used for the pros gloves. The former will tear up really easily while the latter will show almost no wear compared to the typical synthetic leather that most gloves are made of. The nylon is also a fair amount lighter. I have some TPS gloves that are half nylon/half pleather and the nylon hardly has a mark while the pleather has got a few roughed up spots after a few months use.

Nylon's the way to go. Lighter, dries better and holds up far better than any leather/pleather gloves I'd used.

Listen to Jay. One thing to keep in mind, do NOT use your nylon gloves (pro stock or otherwise) outside if you play some roller during the summer. Nylon gloves are *very* durable on ice and during normal ice situations, moreso than even PU leather, but they're not durable when it comes to asphault!

Just a heads up.

well, i guess i shoulda ordered my hgt's with nylon rather than buying them from the store, even though i got a sweet deal on them ($120 cdn). i've only used them for maybe a month and i already notices a good number of scuffs and cuts in the leather

How well do the "pro" nylon gloves hold up when playing inline on sportcourt?

Sportcourt is easy on nylon. You should be fine with nylon.

Just as long as you don't try to go outside and take a spill on the asphault or tennis court, or if you play on roll-on forget about nylon it will eat them. Of course asphault and roll-on eat *everything*.

What do you consider roll-on? My gloves in the sell section were used on a very smooth painted cement surface and there's hardly a mark on the nylon portion. I always thought that was roll-on so maybe I've got my surfaces confused.

Roll-on is just that, it's a rubberized compound that's physically rolled over a concrete rink. It's like a thin rubberish carpet (but smooth) that you adhere on top of a cement surface. When you fall on roll-on, it's like falling on a pencil eraser... and it does just that to equipment (pants, gloves, you name it).

I would go with pro nylon, so much lighter, and it wears much less than portofino (synthetic leather).
