snickersnicker 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 My apologies if this topic has come up many times; I did a search and didn't see anything specifically about this. What parts (if any) of the blade do you tape? I've currently got mine starting about two centimetres from where the shaft angles and turns into the blade, and ending about a centimetre and a half to two from the tip. I'm considering retaping it, with tape from a little past the halfway point to three or four centimetres from the tip. What do you use, and why?
Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 I like a full heel to toe tape job. Being a defenseman, my blade gets trashed from poke checks, skate blades, and teeth (just kidding...). Plus I like a good amount of tape on puck contact for passes, shooting, etc. If I played forward, I'd probably just go with a 3/4 tape job to reduce weight, but I think durability and wear and tear first. cbj05 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 I tape 5 strips/rounds on the toe of my blade, with white tape. (blade always sprayed black) I'd say that would be about 1/4 of my blade. Have always done it like that since I was a little kid.
pisani34 10 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 i like to do the whole heel to toe tape job...i don't know if my way is very good, but how do you guys tape over the toe and not get any excess? All i've been doing is taping it in full strips and then cutting the excess with scissors

All i've been doing is taping it in full strips and then cutting the excess with scissorsWhen I do mine I leave the part at the toe so it goes over the blade, push the excess together then take a razor and shape it to the blade, if that makes sense. If not I could get pics but basically I just use a razor to shape to the blade and it holds pretty well.Scott

All i've been doing is taping it in full strips and then cutting the excess with scissorsI do pretty much the same thing. It depends on the blade really. I have a a koho stick I use primarily for defensive purposes so I tape the blade full for durability. I have a synergy with a sakic blade that I tape the center of the blade about 1/2 the blade and I put a small tape cap on the toe. And I have a Stealth with a gaborik curve that I tape about 2 inches from the heel to the toe. It all depends what your trying to do with the blade.
Jbone 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 Depends what kind of curve it is. If it's like a Drury I go from heel to almost the end of the toe. If it's a straighter blade I go about 2-3 inches from the toe in.

CThockey11 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2007 I do my tape job quiet originally, haven't seen any other HS kids use it,I start from the the back side of the heel about 1/2 from the bend of shaft-to-blade, then I go with very large strips (width-wise) to use as least tape as possible and to save weight. then I finish about 75% up the blade, and use the top of it to tear it, ending on the top of the backhand side...so I end up leaving about 3 or 3 1/2 in. of non taped space on the toe. I have a one90 so I end it where the back hand side decal starts near the toe.I use only the bottom 75% because thats all you should use, it also reminds me not to use toe-drags,like the coaches always say, dont be fancy, just do it right! Jake 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2007 mack is a jokemaker.I'm rather meticulous with my tape jobs.. I start with waxing the bare blade. Then white tape from mid-to-toe, overlapping and then cutting the excess off the toe. Then I go back and do a couple of layers of black tape from where I started the white tape, towards the heel (still leave a lot of the heel untaped). I then razor blade the bottom of the tape off, then rub a puck along the front and back of the blade.. Then wax, heat gun, more wax.

mack 44 Report post Posted February 10, 2007 y is every1 so sarcastic on this damn forumThere was zero sarcasm in my post. I haven't changed the way I tape a blade since I was 10 and these kinds of threads routinely pop up for whatever reason. It's not like anyone's going to have some super-terrific new way of taping a blade.
