I was wondering if Ilya Kovalchuk is still signed with Nike Bauer because at my local shop they have bauer vapor xxx's and xxx lites with his curve and they also have his pro stock curve on warrior. Is he signed to warrior or Nike Bauer?

i dont think he is with Nike/ Bauer anymore.. like i said i dont think. I work for the Thrashers so im in the locker room all the time and Kovy, as im sure most of you know, uses MIA Gloves and Warrior Sticks. the only things he uses that are NIke/ Bauer are his helmet and his Custom skates which are basically a mix between a V-12 and a Vapor xx. he might uses pants as well. i dont know about that part

How many of those custom skates does he have left? I doubt NBH will make him more of those now that Nike skates don't really exist anymore and he isn't a poster boy

i have no idea how many he has. but i dont think Nike/ Bauer will turn down their business. and considering either way that markets their name. Kids in ATL buy whatever Kovy is using. everyone asks me for his sticks or anything with his name on it

Hockey Development- not for the actual players.. but we coach kids in Atlanta. By no means am i trying to mislead someone into the idea that i am an integral part of the team. Im in college and only work part time. i Work for Atlanta Spirit and work for the Thrashers side on the HDT. Im lucky enough to have worked with some of the players and get to uses their facilities.

No more NBH retail "Kovalchuk" pattern, it's now known as P91a....nor does Warrior produce a retail "Kovalchuk" pattern.. however, pro stock sticks do exist.

I'm guessing you saw the NBH retail "Kovalchuk" sticks, and an actual pro stock Warrior with his actual blade pattern.

they make it, they call it Smyth in retail, but its kovalchuks pattern. look at any ak27 blade, it will say "KOV" on the label somewhere

yeah the "KOV" on the label on the AK27 is for Alexei Kovalev, Alexei Kovalev has his own shaft/blade that Warrior made for him, in no way is that relating to Kovalchuk...

Except its not. find an Smyth AK27 blade, on the tenon is a label including the letters KOV. Making sense because its kovalchuks exact pattern.

same with Weight, its a clone of Chris Drury's pattern

that's weird...because I have an AK27 shaft and blade, the 06 gold one, and I never saw any "KOV" mark on anypart of the stick...but i dont know..are you talking about the part of the blade that ypou put into the shaft, with the glue on it?

I thought the Kovalchuk pro stock was a little more deeper, and more of a swank in the toe than the Smyth retail...at least the pics, and stick I've seen. But then again, I've never had the 2 together to compare.

I doubt they say KOV anywhere on them. Funny nobody else knows about this, sounds more like someone is wrong and trying to save face. If you have a blade with that on it, post us a picture...

Haha woah there fresh. Some of the guys (and girls) have been around sticks, espicailly pro-stocks. For one, i know Buzz has been around/seen a lotta stuff.

I've never seen a Smyth Warrior, but Buzz's explanation does sound legit. When I had Fedorov Innovative blades, which were obviously Easton Modano clones before they renamed it to Forsberg, the tenon of the Inno blades had MOD engraved on it, signifying Modano I'm guessing. So it makes sense that they would do the same with the Smyth retail blade.

I disagree.

I just bought a Kovie Prostock from a member here, and while the Smyth curve is a pretty nasty one, it's not as filthy as this fish hook.

Here is the Kovie blade...

And the shaft says Kovalchuk

He's saying it's on the AK27 which is a stick named after Alex KOValev... so apparently, a retail Smyth blade is in fact a Kovalchuk pattern... that's what he's saying anyway, and it's only on the AK27... I don't really care, but it doesn't make any sense, and even if it did say KOV that doesn't mean anything. It's just an assumption, and a poor one at that

And has that curve finally allowed you silence "Lady of Spain" once and for all at your arena? ;)

That's one of his curves. I've personally seen two different curves of his and I've seen pictures of probably 3 different mid/toe curves and one heel.

*I'd like to add that I'm refering to that as a mid even though it's a heel because most people would consider that a mid or a toe.

Im talking AK27 blades, and ive seen them labeled as follows:

Weight - DRU - Drury Pro

Smyth - KOV - Kovalchuk pro

Federov - MOD - Modano retail

Draper - NT3 - Nke Toe 3 (Legwand)

Jovanovski - NH2 - Nike Heel 2 - Brind'Amour

I read your post. OK, well I'll say I regret ever saying anything b/c I don't care to have this turn in to a stupid message board fight..

Maybe I'm wrong, who knows. I don't get why someone would think the Smyth is Kovalchuk's pro curve, they're not the same at all
