Skate dilemma 2007

Recommended Posts

I went to Perani's today to check out a few pair of skates. Ive never actually tried ice skates on, im strictly a roller hockey player. First time ive ever bee sized for non mission skates and the guy said im an 11 E. Then he looks at my left foot, measures it and says im a 10 E. I say ok, what do you have in 11 E. He only had one pair of skates Vector 7.5s and they fit like a glove. I considered getting them for ice, since I want to start up in an adult league this summer.

Now im left with out a pair of skates. I wanted to try on the other Vectors, they even had the 10.0SEs and the RBK 9K but nothing in my size. It was either a 13 or an 8. I then went a smaller LHS and it was the same way, nothing in my size.

How am I gonna figure out which skate is best for me? I don't want to order a pair online just to send it back. The guy at Perani's said CCM and Easton would be good for me since my foot was wider.

Should I go custom since my feet are two different sizes?

Thanks

This is the worst possible time of year to buy skates. I would wait until spring/summer and go when the availability is better. A full size is also a huge gap from one foot to the other, I would make sure you tried on other sizes as well.

See thats the thing, I need these pretty quickly because im mounting a roller chassis on them. Can I expect the Vector 10s to fit the same as the 7.5s?

You could always lob off the extra part of your toe so that both feet match.

Just kiddin. You can try them all on but the Easton is definitely a wider skate. I was told that the Easton's don't hold up, but they seem to be holding up just fine for me as well as a few players on my team.

Just crank the laces down on the Easton skate more on one foot. The new skates (by most manufacturers) fit so nicely that you really don't have to crank down on the laces all that much to get a good fit.

Thats the problem, I was only able to try on one skate at two locations. Just the Easton Vector 7.5. Every brand imaginable was there but I couldn't try them on or figure out what works for me. How do people actually find skates that fit nowadays?

Some just order things online and say they're the greatest skates ever, even if they don't fit.

Thats all you have are two LHS ?? Take your time. Shop around. There has to be more LHS in your area. You could also try ProSkate. They can custom fit you no matter what your location. All you have to do is trace your feet on paper with a pencil and take a couple other measurements. Check them out.

the vector 7.5's should fit pretty much identical to the 10 since there isnt to much of a performance gap in between.

normally if someone has a full size difference in their feet they know about earlier...not sure how old you are and if you are still growing, regardless must be some monster feet to be in an 11E nowadays...(Vapor's notwithstanding)

what have you been skating in for roller?

I wear a size 12 shoe. Im 20 years old and ive never noticed a size difference. In inline ive always worn 12D Missions, my left foot(smaller foot) has always moved a little bit in my boot while my right(bigger) felt perfect.

I have one LHS nearby and then I have to drive an hour to hit the group around the Detroit area.

I'm going to go out on a limb here...and I know its sacrilege and all..and say you didn't get the best fitting job

if you are skating in an older mission (ie before they started using ice sizing on their inlines) I doubt you are going from a D to an E and only down one size in your biggest foot...drive the hour..go to a couple places..get fitted etc...it will be worth it...

I can feel your pain...where I grew up in NY there was little to nothing in the LHS world...and we waited til we went to places like Brick, South Windsor, Coliseum ,etc to pick up some gear
