New Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

I saw them at the show and I wouldn't suggest them because there are a couple design flaws that I think could result in injury.
There is a lot of uncovered hard plastic that is dangerous to others. The fact that the caps don't move also requires you to be hit just right for them to protect you. I think they have potential but need some refinements.

The old Tom Poti add is in USA Hockey Mag with him wearing Farrell. Beyond what you mentioned, Chadd, there is no center sternum protection nor a spine-guard of any kind.

I do agree that they look like they'd be comfy and not to hot, but poor choice in the areas selected for the plastic protection (why two small pieces over the nipples?). Also, *QUITE* expensive at $150 a pop!

I got them for 115 they're just 150 directly from Farrell. Just to let you know there is padding on the center velcro strap, but I still see what you mean.

Has anyone had the chance to try the new TPS R8 Shoulder Pad? To me they look pretty similar to the Farrell's, but with a little more substantial shoulder caps and I wanted to see if anyone had an opinion. Thanks.

I got them and like them a lot. The Coolmax lining works, they are not hot, as I was afraid of, the weight is ok also. Very good flexible protection for chest/back, those diamonds got plastic inserts in the R8s and doing a real good job. A little bulky shoulders, but I got used to it (coming from Vector 6)

One word RBK. Best shoulder pads on the market for protection. I use the middle of the line 6K and their good for just about any level of play.If your a more serious player in high contact I'd move up to the 7K or 9K. A bit on the bulky side but excellent shock absorption properties.

I'm pretty sure you can move the plastic caps around anywhere

i wear farrell's, (shoulder pads and elbow pads) the shoulder pads are great for movement and most protection but i have separated my shoulder with them just by a stick check. The elbow pads don't do much

I just bought new shoulder pads last night. Really didn't want to pay the price but I ended up getting the NBH One 90's.

I tried on everything and these were the best. The fit is what got me. I felt like the shoulder pads really conformed to me not just put on over my shoulders.

Mobility is great on these things. I get to test them out in a few hours so I'll get to see how good of protection they are.

No, you can move them around a little, but there is only a small section of velcro on each side to attach them to.

Whats the word on the Bauer Supreme Classics? Been thinking about trying them.........

I have a different brand but they are similar to those. Only dislike is they tend to move around more than some of the bulkier pads but they still provide enough protection.

Are they bulky? Are they comparable to the Sherwood 5030's?

Any one used the Bauer Supreme 30's? I'm using the 5030's and took a pretty hard shot in the abs where there's no padding, looking at getting something with a bit more protection in the spine and abs.

Very comparable... But I like the NBH's better. Although taking a puck to the 10" gap I have from my pants to the bottom of the shoulder pads hurts like hell.

Simple solution: drink more beer. Gotta get some padding in there somehow...

not bulky at all, I tried them both on both fit very similar both are lace up front and back, the shoulder caps are a bit bigger on the bauers and sit on top of the shoulder as opposed to the 5030 which sit a bit more forward
