Anyone Here a Fighter?

Recommended Posts

I always thought it was pretty fun to fight. Even though I have to admit Ive never taken the gloves off on the rink.

Is anyone here on a team and you do alot of fighting?

Ive always wondered if that would suck or be pretty fun.

Any storys?

I had some shoving matches playing midget, in most youth hockey and lower level junior the refs aren't going to let much go. I'd agree with the other post, the vast majority of stories where guys use their stick like some acient Asian martial arts weapon to beat up the other team single handed are BS. Also, I stand by my theory: fist fighting in the beer leagues is like running in the special olympics, even if you win you're still retarded.

It's not my fight, but one time I went to my friends brother ball hockey game a couple years ago, there was an all out bench brawl the police came and everything

I've only been in one fight in a hockey game. It was pathetic at best :)

Nowadays, I do enjoy the physical components of the game, but only in the spirit of competition and fun.

If I wanna' fight, I go to the Muay Thai gym and call everyone pansies.

Seriously though... I don't like pain!

Someone posted a link to a Canadian article about some guy who punched out another guy at beer league and got thrown in jail for a long time. I know it's extreme, but that's a possibility.

Not saying I'm anti-fighting, but in this day and age, you never know what can get you put on trial.

It's not fun if it's your every game job. You break your hand and bust your knuckles open fairly often (sooner or later you start to lose functions of your hand as well). No matter how good or tough you are, eventually someone will catch you with a punch that cleans your clock. You're almost guaranteed to get split open around your lip or eye socket every 2 weeks or so, and you start to lose feeling around your lips and cheeks after you've been in enough scraps.

And although there's a "code" among fighters in the NHL, most levels below the AHL and especially a lot of Junior leagues, you're bound to run into a guy who's about 2 screws short of a toolbox with a brick for a head and hammers for fists and will do any and everything he can to hurt you because it's all he can do to keep a spot. Not fun.

I have had only one fight in my hockey-playing life. It went fairly long (or at least it felt like it), and I didn't do bad - the guy was a little bigger than me, and I'd never fought, and it ended in a draw - but by the end, I was just begging for it to be broken up. As it turns out, a hockey fight is like the most tiring thing in the history of the earth. After that, I decided that not only is fighting stupid, but also that absolutely nothing is worth making you that tired, and never dropped the gloves again.

I've only been in two real fights playing hockey:

1-In high school, pretty good brawl that cleared both benches. I did ok till somebody sucker punched me blindside.

2- Beer league- Stupid fight , lasted about 30 seconds but netted me and the other guy 10 game suspensions. Wasent worth it.

I do run into to more people that want to fight at drop ins though. Knuckleheads

only two fights here myself.

first was high school, cages and gloves, but still some good punches thrown.

second was college when fans pelted our bench with batteries. the fight was more with fans than other players, although some of them joined in. cops came to calm the situation down.

I never considered cages and gloves a real fight. Its equivalent to lockerboxing. If it is a real fight then mark me down for like 10.

I was thinkin more like Junior fighting and stuff.

It's bound to happen if you play long enough. Hockey is an emotional sport, and somtimes your emotions take over and common sense goes out the window. I've been in my fair share of fights, and for the most part you just end up with bumps and bruises, and an occasional cut or two. For the most part it's nothing personal, and more times than not I end up talking to the other guy while we are sitting in the box, and usualy shake hands and say "nothing personal" after the game.

After a scrap or if I know I was in the wrong, I'll talk to the guy in the handshake line or between faceoffs and say "No hard feelings" or something to that effect if I sense he's cool with it too. 99% of the time the other dude is calmed down and understands.

But yeah, no other sport I've ever played (football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, *cough* tennis *cough) matches the amount of emotion one gets from being on the ice.

having a "fight" with helmets and gloves on is not a fight by any means, a real fight both fighters have to have thier helmets off as well as gloves...other wise its just a playfight.

like in this fight where he just pats him on the back after and I've seen other fights where they shake hands as they go to the box.

Beer leagues, we've all got to work in the morning.

Last night, I played a kid a little too hard behind the net and was getting a penalty when the known meathead from the other team tries to lay a hit on me. I'm like, ok, matching calls, no big deal. While I'm in the box, this kid who has never seemed to like me too much says,"This won't end until we drop the gloves." I just smirked and served my two. The sad part, he's a 40 year old guy.

We have a guy like this in my beer league. He always backs down from a fight, but he'll cheap shot you all game, then yap at you like he's hardcore while you're both in the box ('cause inevitably you're going to cheap shot him back in retaliation and get a penalty)

Personally, I've never been in a fight on or off the ice, I think i'd get my butt beat in. I do give little hooks and jabs with the stick if someone pisses me off. I'll fight if I have to protect one of my teammates, but i've never been put in that situation...yet.

Even if it's beer leagues, just like in life, you need to be held accountable for your actions. If somebody tries to injure me or my teammates, they will be dealt with. Even if you're wearing a cage, a nice knock to it will get the message across to cut the shit.

I can agree with that, especially in cases where the officials are not handing out the proper penalties for moronic or thuggish behavior.

I'm a Ned Braden and the only fight I remember was being tuned by some Crote in an exhibition game way back in the day.
