Now that the trade deadline has passed and everyone thinks their team has a better chance at winning the Cup, except for Oilers fans, I was remembering the Butch Goring trade to the Islanders in 1980. The trade solidified the 2nd line and the Islanders went on to win 4 straight Cups. Now the only other deal I could remember that actually made THE difference in a team winning the Cup in that same year is the trade the Rangers made on 3/21/94: Tony Amonte and Matt Oates to Chicago for Stephane Matteau and Brian Noonan. Matteau's OT GWG against the Devils was THE difference.

Can anybody think of another deal like these two that actually brought your team the Cup that same year?

Don't forget the Ron Francis and Ulf Samuelsson to the Pens deal back in 1991. That one was huge even though it was 1 day before the actual deadline

3 years is a lot of waiting for Quebec/Colorado to pull the trigger. Thank the Detroit Red Wings and Mario Tremblay for finally lighting the fire that sparked the Colorado Cup win.

The wait is irrelevant. They couldn't make that trade if they didn't have the resources from the Lindros trade. That trade kept Sundin and Nolan around after they would have been signed elsewhere.
