Janssen on Kaberle

Recommended Posts

I've stood by and been pretty silent on the late/high hits this year, but when it happens to your own guy you feel obligated to speak out. I'm all for hitting in the game, but this is garbage. He didn't have the puck for 3+ seconds. Clean shoulder to Kaberle's head which was bent over. The league needs to step up on this. I've always thought Janssen is a waste of an NHLer anyway. I can't wait to see someone try to defend him and this hit.

That hit was terrible. He should definitely get a suspension. The ref was 10 feet away and didn't call a penalty. Come on. And the leafs don't have Belak dressed, so Gill is really their only fighter to do anything about it. The Leafs announcers are livid about it.

I missed the hit and didn't see a replay but I heard Chico defending the hit as they wheeled Kaberle off the ice. For some reason the Devils broadcast (on center ice) isn't showing a replay.

Gill sucks at fighting from what I've seen, though. I'm glad Darcy chimed in, even if he wasn't dressed.

Its usually more of a wrestling match with him because players usually just try to tie him up because hes so big.

here is a crappy video of it. im sure better will be out soon.

It clearly shows that he went right after Kaberle's head with his shoulder but it doesn't give you any idea how far after the pass that was. I honestly believe that any intentional shot to the head like that is an obvious attempt to injure the guy you are hitting. As I've said many times before, the NHL has to ban this type of hit.

Aside from the hit, what really pissed me off was watching Janssen's stupid mug telling Tucker to f--k off. In any other case, I would fully approve of anyone saying that to Tucker, but Janssen's demeanor was one that made me think "what a piece of sh-t that guy is."

Janssen is very young yet; he needs some time to mature. He's made one or two other mistakes like (though not as bad) this one thus far this season. He's an emotional player and he needs to learn how to discipline himself.

He's got to be sat-down (either by the league or by the team) for four or five games, or maybe longer, so he can learn that he really has to control himself and his body.

I did not check his data yet, but according to this video, he looks like 30+

I'm sorry but five games for that would be ridiculous. That was a deliberate intent to injure, there is no way of getting around that. I don't know what should happen to him, but if ever there is a time to make an example out of someone, this is it. This instance shows the downside of the game of hockey; someone who plays in 40 games and has one point can potentially end the season, if not career, or arguably the best defenseman in the Eastern Conference. While a lot of the other famous high hits this year (Williams, Drury, Torres', etc.) can be argued, this hit can't be.

The more I think about it, the more disappointed I am that somebody didn't go after him. Granted he didn't play another shift in the game, but someone from the ice needed to go after him right then and there. Its disappointing watching that happen to your star player, and its equally as disappointing to see nobody stand up for him. The Leaf teams of the past would have mauled him. Its funny, when the game started I noticed Belak was scratched and Devereaux was in. I figured it was because NJ doesn't play that physical, and the only guy that would need to be kept in check (Janssen) plays three shifts a game. I guess we all have March 20th to look forward to.

After everything I've always heard from Leafs fans about how gritty and tough their teams always are, and how much heart they have, I'm a little surprised that Janssen just skated away and stood around on the ice for a while after that with nobody going anywhere near him. I don't know who else was on the ice, but on such a 'gritty, tough' team, you would think someone would at least try and do something about that. I'd be less embarassed to be the guy that fought Janssen and lost than to be the guy who didn't even try to do anything.

It's tough to say what the right move was but the Leafs did end up winning so Marice can attribute that to retaliating differently.....However, with that said, I still would have done what Lindy Ruff did after the Drury/Neil hit.

As was already mentioned, one of there stars should have been hurting after that. I think it may be a good idea for NJ to let TO win there next game, if the leafs are out of the playoffs and they are down, you can count on someone taking liberties at one of NJs stars

I think it was pretty sick how after the game, Janssen says in the interview that he was just finishing his check and that he is sure Kaberle will be fine. Who the eff is this guy to say something like that.

A thing is sure, Tucker won't forget it. Janssen should be aware of Tucker next game they will play each other.

I hate to see those hits, the league should protect their ''skilled'' player...

I have always felt these hits were somewhat premeditated...what I mean is, these hits happen to the Lindros's, the Kariya's, the Drury's, the Francis's, the Kaberle's...you don't see AHL level players like Janssen's taking runs at the teams 5 minutes a game player.

The intent was clearly to injure and I think he should get at least 10 games. The league cannot afford to have its stars or any players for that matter (bad press, etc) get taken out like this.

am i the only one whos picked up that he kinda left his feet on the hit as well?

and watching that video i also enjoyed the "how ridiculous is this" face janssen made as they brought the stretcher onto the ice... i cant believe nothing was done in retaliation

This is just an other example of what the nhl is today, all this nonsense talk about finishing checks and what a hit really is...

A check is to be used to gain an advantage on a player carrying the puck...

In the NHL they hit to hurt and thats exactly what dude did...

Do we have to wait until Monday to hear what kind of suspension he recieved?

He's not going to get anything, don't hold your breath. If he was going to get suspended, they would announce something before the next Devils game.

Telephone hearing 3 games+

Face-to-face hearing 10 games+

one of the dirtiest hits of the year hands down, to bad Belak wasny dressed last night he would have tuned him up but Janssen will get his next time they play toronto, at least the leafs got the win!

If anyone doesn't have any right to be mad about dirty hits, it's Darcy Tucker. Every hit he delivers is a "Macho Man" Randy Savage-like flying elbow to the head.

Also, Wade Belak wouldn't have tuned anyone up. All he would have done is grabbed Janssen's jersey, and stood there with his head turned, trying not to get punched like he does every time he "fights."
