Gummer12 134 Report post Posted March 3, 2007 Any one here whose rink bans these damn shoes? Or is just me that they're the most annoying thing since Mmm Bop? Seems like half the kids now have these, and I have seen on many occasions of kids falling, even 'skating' with laces untied. Even had One girl fall while Standing, leaned back too far and her feet came out from under her. Your Thoughts
kosydar 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2007 If I owned a building I would ban them. They're a lawsuit waiting to happen.
epstud74 24 Report post Posted March 3, 2007 My little cousin wears them to the rink all the time..I see kids running around w/em everywhere I go nowadays. All these 10-12 year old brats zipping around the concourse.
Monty22 833 Report post Posted March 3, 2007 One of the more annoying fads in recent memory. I've lost count of how many of those little bastards I've had run into me because the shop really isn't the ideal place to be racing around.
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted March 3, 2007 I've seen rinks that ban them. Unfortunately I sell them :(Funny story - my old Mission rep came into my store 4 years ago and showed them to us. We laughed him out of the shop. After the Itech merger he stopped repping Mission. He got the last laugh on us - in 2006 he cleared $1M in commission off of Heelys alone. GSHL99 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2007 Other day I was getting my skates sharpend, two kids out in the lobby which is separated from the ice screwing around with them. One stopped paying attention just long enougn to run smack into the vending machines. When I came back a couple days later for a game there was a sign up forbidding them in the rink. I've also seen kids coming out of several rinks with them zipping right into the parking lot. I think they're stupid and probably dangerous.
Viking 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2007 It's obvious these things are dangerous, and even more obvious that they're stupid. They've stuck around longer than I expected, so unfortunately I think it's going to take some kid slipping and breaking his skull, or heely-ing into traffic and getting hit by a bus for their parents to realize they don't need their kids running around in these things, and they need to bite the bullet and actually say no to their kid about something. There are just some situations where you don't need to have wheels underneath you!

Drewhunz 3 Report post Posted March 4, 2007 To quote the Dixie Chicks"I want everyone to know, I'm ashamed that Heely's are from Texas."Almost hit a parent a couple weeks ago when their kid ran into me and told me to watch where I was going. Grabbed the kid by the shirt, carried him to his dad, told him to fuck off and preceeded to walk away.
Gummer12 134 Report post Posted March 4, 2007 For those rinks that Do ban them? What to do with the kids (esp when we first implement it) that don't realize it and come in with only those on.. can't make em take them off. And Yelling at them isn't going to do Squat, esp with their parents standing right behind them, spilling half their corn on the floor oblivious to everything but dreaming about little Johny's Future NHL contract. I think I'm gonna have a long talk with Management about this and really push for banning these damn things next season. Along with Scrawny little Dogs with Coats! GoHawks 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2007 not sure about all of them, but the one's i've seen, the wheels pop out of the bottom. Could just make them take the wheels out. I don't see how people can go down a flight of stairs without breaking their neck.

KYHockey3 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 at our mall they are usually outlawed. the ret-a-cops get after kids all the time for riding around on them. i see mostly squirt teams all having them on.last year at a tournament, there was a decent size space under the door, and a coach caught kids trying to steal the shoes.its amazing the lengths these kids will go to get these shoes.im going to a tourney in nashville this weekend and i guarantee i will see atleastt 100 people on these shoes. Bmplam 1 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 The kids are rolling wild at the rink! Wheels on their feet and on their bags working in unison. Our YMCA has banned them and as soon as they get the Zamboni working properly and all the resulting ice issues resolved, maybe they will get around to banning the Heelys.at our mall they are usually outlawed. the ret-a-cops get after kids all the time for riding around on them. i see mostly squirt teams all having them on.last year at a tournament, there was a decent size space under the door, and a coach caught kids trying to steal the shoes.its amazing the lengths these kids will go to get these shoes.im going to a tourney in nashville this weekend and i guarantee i will see atleastt 100 people on these shoes.More than that. I was at the Nashville tournament this past weekend (for the lower tier teams) and we stayed at the Opryland Hotel and they couldn't have been too happy about all their little guests on wheels zipping through the lobbys and concourses. That place is ideal for kids on Heelys to let it all hang out!
hockeyherb 1 Report post Posted March 5, 2007 As much as adults hate these things, I wish they were around when I was a kid. I would have convinced my parents it's like extra skating practice no matter where I go.Let's hear from some parents that let their kids wear them and what they think of them. Who's brave enough to step into this thread??
