Getting Fit For Custom Skates

Recommended Posts

I am on the market for a new pair of skates and none of my LHS know how/will take mesurments, photos, etc... of my feet to be sent into NBH. Does anyone know of the location of any shops that will do this in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

One90's are not customizeable correct? Just the Vapor line?

I believe the Vapor can be custom but unless you're a pro 190's are out. You may be able to get custom 170's.

So the One90's are also customizeable?

I was talking to my local semi-pro team's equipment manager and he said that he might be able to do it. Anybody could do it for that matter. He said he would just have to give a call into NBH and ask for the "Custom Skate Sizing Forums". They would just fax him what he needed to fill out and then he would just fax it back. Has anyone ever heard of doing this before?

Thanks!

Im sure St Louis has a few hockey shops..Where in Iowa? There's a good little shop down in Waterloo, IA near Young Arena where the USHL Junior A Waterloo Blackhawks play. They cater to the players there and the owner is actually the equipment manager of that team.

I guess I didnt think about that. I am currently located in Bettendorf (Iowa/Illinois border) so the Waterloo shop would make sense. I also thought about trying some places in Des Moines.

Also, epstud74 do you know whether or not the One90's are customizeable?

Thanks!

Custom Supreme One90s are available to the public. Also, there is no such model as One70. Only the top model has the "One" designation. The second model is the Supreme 70.

For kicks and giggles how much do custom skates run for approximately?

The only time I ever got to see a custom skate was from Easton with the Z-airs for a co-worker and he got them for free.

Thanks for the info Reaper.

Also, nicksmission14, the equipment manager said that custom skates would run about $50 - $60 extra dollars, but it is TOTALLY worth it. It is a one time fee and anytime that you want to order another pair of custom skates, you just lift the insole and there is a code stamped on the bottom of the boot. You just call in and give them your number.

Not true.

Wrong on the price and wrong on the "one-time fee."

You need a trace of your foot in the sitting position, knees at a 90-degree angle, and four measurements of your foot/ankle.

Not available for retail, it is a skate for pros who still want the old models. NBH does not have components for those older models anymore so they offer them those.

Thanks epstud74. I had no idea there was a shop in town. But thanks for all your info.

JR do you know if you can just call NBH, or would a certified dealer have to get you the info? Sorry about the missunderstanding with the sakte fees. How much would the cost be to have a pair of One90's custom made? Just a guess...

Thanks.

I contacted my Chicago area TotalHockey today about getting fitted for a custom pair of One90s, I was told the final price would be 599.99 and was given a bit of an idea as to what I can have done to them. An up-charge of 49.99 from what they were listed at from when I was there about a week ago. So as soon as I can sell my Graf Supra 705s and pick up some Superfeet for my pronation I'll be heading over there again for a pair.

One thing I did forget to ask about was turn-around time. Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the process of sending in an order and actually receiving them takes?

6 weeks?! Really?! In your guy's opinion do you think custom skates are worth the extra money/waiting time? I really want to get a pair of custom One90's, but maybe not...

Thanks.

That depends on why you are considering custom skates in the first place. Clearly, if you have major fit issues it is worth the time and expense. Otherwise I'd be asking myself why I want to go this route... there's other things $100 could be spent on.

Hockeymom is right. Unless you have major fit issues, sometimes the expectation of a "custom skate"(its custom, it has to be better for me) doesn't match the reality of the custom skate once you get it. In my years of experience, there has nver been 100% satisfaction among all guys who order custom skates. The majority are satisfied but the few who are not satisfied are often very disappointed. This is simply just a heads up thought to share.
