Ribeiro: Habs treated me unfairly

Recommended Posts

Mike finally speaks his mind and as much as the world hates him, I agree with the guy,he played within himself and theres nothing wrong with that, He played better then 80% of the team at all times, even in Dallas, he saved a season for em this year that could of gone sour because of injuries... By his style and demener, he will never get his due but I think hes great, Vision, hands and for the lack of skating he has, hes managed pretty good if you ask me, hes much better then allot of these so called great skating goofballs that are in the league and at 1.9M hes one of the better offensive bargains in the league for a guy not in his first contract (So not salary capped...)

on Montreal today, hes better then

MICHAEL RYDER and his -25

ALEX KOVALEV -11 what a waste

TOMAS PLEKANEC (Hes a good player tho)

MIKE JOHNSON not bad but limited

SERGEI SAMSONOV -14 I can't stand him

RADEK BONK Take him away, take him away

ALEXANDER PEREZHOGIN

STEVE BEGIN Great heart but with Lapierre, no need for him no more

MAXIM LAPIERRE Good guy right here

GARTH MURRAY Is he even a hockey player?

ANDREI KOSTITSYN who knows?

Why am I not surprised to hear Ribeiro complaining about the way he was treated. Anyways, he justifies their unhappiness with him when he admits that he didn't do as much off ice work as they expected.

You can't force a guy to do stuff like that, he played the way he knew how to, thats what got him there, not being in the Gym...

If they where so unhappy with him , they should of never gave i'm a new contract during the summer....

Your right, you are better off with Ninnima

Hes mad because he beleives that no matter how good he was, nothing was good enought, if Ribs was performing like Samsonov in Montreal, they would hang him and thats what hes saying...

I disagree. Take Eric Fehr, currently on call up for the caps from hershey.

He was called up a few times last season too, but he was pushed around and manhandled.

They asked him to add some weight and muscle. Thats what he done in the offseason.

While he only has 2 goals on his callup, he is looking a lot more confident now, and is stronger on the puck.

The NHL is the toughest league to stay in in the world, and with finesse, you still need to be able to hold your own to control your game.

You can't force guys to do it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't need doing

i'm not knocking but you need a lot of skill, i have allot of heart, does not mean i should have a nhl uniform...

the guy is the second best scorer on a nhl team and lead the habs a hole year, i think he knows how to hold his own in the nhl... he got another goal tonight...

You can't force a guy to do off-ice? Last time I checked NHL players are INVESTMENTS AND EMPLOYEES. When you're paying a shmuck like Ribeiro millions of dollars TO PLAY HOCKEY you know damn well he better be willing to do a box jump when he's told to. Don't even get me started on his "acting" career.

I was very surprised at what he can do on the ice this year in Dallas...I would think that Soup doesn't stand for any rebellion on the training side down here...maybe that's part of it?

Montreal sure misses Mike Ribeiro. One of the greatest vision in the league for sure.

But ask Ribeiro if Kovalev was a waste. Last year, Ribeiro told to the papers that Kovalev was the best player he ever played with in his life.

Anyway, Kovalev won't be in Montreal next year and the team will be even worse.

Actually NHL teams can expect their players to work out, condition, practice, watch film, and do a lot of other things. These guys aren't making 5 million/season to play 20 mins a game and then go home and sit on their couch every night.

You are right, they shouldn't have given him a new contract.

Who said anything about Ninnima???

If he performed like Samsonov, they would probably treat him like Samsonov, which means benching him and ripping his ass in the newspapers...just like Samsonov. It would be deserved too.

He has skill, and is a great grinder. Maybe you guys should trade him for a euro that you guys are so fond of, so he can be a healthy scratch and be a cancer in the locker room.

I totally agree with that statement, those guys are making millions, they should at least do what they are told to.

Now, gotta give my opinion on Ribeiro. I grew up admiring him in the QJHML, this guy has a natural talent that can hardly be matched (he had 167pts in 69 matches in 98-99.) The problem with Mike is that hockey wasn't what he was living for. He's the type of guy that likes to have fun and not only train, train and train like a Sidney Crosby would do (which makes him that great). A common rumor in Montreal was that he was hanging at Paré (a famous Montréal strip-club). When the trade was made with Dallas, he even joked: I'll try to hang with TO (Terrell Owens) in Dallas. Anyway, what i really wanted to say is that with all the talent in the world, you aren't going to dominate the NHL without a tremendous effort and a lot of work.

Mike Ribeiro makes me think about another very good player that could't make it because of it's commitment: Alexandre Daigle. His story is a lot worst tho...

Great post Hidious,

I have always admire Ribeiro's vision, skills and poise with puck. But the thing he misses the most is what the great have like Crosby, they are living for hockey.

They should of tried to trade him, and get someone who actually likes to try night in and night out. Not that they'd even get much for him.

Montreal already have their own players to think about, they don't need to be thinking of the complaining players that left the team or were traded.
