8090 vs XX

Recommended Posts

I was at my LHS the other day and noticed they had the 8090 in stock and were selling it for $450 CDN. THe Vapor XX was still at $550 or around there maybe a bit more. Is this a really good deal for the 8090? I was under the impression that it was as good or better of a skate than the XX but it's tons cheaper.

The SRP on the 8090 is 100 bucks cheaper than the XX's

Yeah, $100 off is not a deal. Just depends what you want. Vapor XX's are Bauer's top-of-the-line skate. The 8090's are nice too from what I hear but do not feel anything like the Vapor XX's...can't really compare the two.

I've been looking at the 8090's a lot latley and to save creating a whole different thread, is there any huge distintive difference between the 8090 and the 8000?

Jr is right, the XX & 8090 both perform as well....they are both top of the line....but they are two different skates with different fits & looks. We believe with both models we hit any kind of foot type, width....comfort, & bottom line, performance.... which is what we are all about...#1 priority is & always....what can we do to make every player perform better & that includes all the elements mentioned above.

Cheers

Whichever one fits your foot will be the better skate. For me that was the 8090. The 8090 also happens to be alot more durable if that means anything to you.

I honestly cannot justify the fact that the 8090 and 8000 are the exact same price at my LHS. The 8090 is much stiffer, lighter, and wider. The 8000 is cut more like the XX.

We have the Vapor XX at 419.99 and the 8090 at 399.99. A joke indeed, but I have absolutely no say in the prices and both skates sell like hot cakes so they aren't lowering them any time soon. I meant that I couldn't justify the prices because the 8090 is a much better skate than the 8000 IMO

Its bizarre because we have the v12 at $369. Most customers dont know the suggested msrp of the 8090 and given that its a top of the line boot the 399.99 pricetag seems justifiable. Luckily mine were only 100 bucks with employee discounts and a trade in on my vapors. :D

Its amazing what weight can do. Every customer comes in, picks up the XX, says to themselves, holy %$&^ thats light, then the price tag and the fact that they dont even fit them are thrown right out the window.

I think it is all what you are you looking for...the XX is a comfortable, light skate. The durability is suspect however. The 8090 is supposed to improve on this durability, but only time will tell.

In my humble opinion, the 8000 is best skate on the market. It's one of the most durable skates on the market, comfortable, and isn't completely a brick

Graz I agree with you 100%, but the 8090 is basically a souped up 8000. What would you buy if they were the same exact price, a standard 3 series or an m3?

The funny thing about the Vapor XX's durability is that a lot of the people that buy the really high end skates tend to buy new skates every year anyways.
