Sick Kick Shaft

Recommended Posts

My LHS has the Sick Kick shaft for $75(US).

Seems like a great deal for a top of the line tapered shaft.

Obviously they are new, so I doubt anyone has tried it yet.

But, to anyone who had the OPS, how does the shaft seem?

Any input is appreciated.

The flex chart has CCM flex ratings, but not RBK.

Does anyone know if they are the same?

The 7K SK shaft seems to be rated a little diff. than the flex chart. I.E> the FC has CCM regular as 95 flex, while the RBK shaft has regular as 85(40KP).

Thanks for any input...

I have the OPS and absolutely love it. Mine is the intermediate which feels very similar to my XXX Lite 77 Flex. It feels heavier than I anticipated (probably 460-470 grams or so), but feels exceptionally well balanced. The snake-grip is decent, nothing to get really excited over but the stick has amazing feel when puck-handling. It also feels much more solid/sturdy (similar to a Synergy ST) especially when compared to my XXX Lite and has held up incredibly well to the normal knicks and scratches. Wrist and snap shots seem to have a nice little snap to them and I love the p32 Phaneuf curve which is a open heel curve similar to the Bauer P106. I don't take slap shots so I can't really comment on that aspect. Hope that helps and if you have any specific questions just let me know.

I also have the OPS. Shaft has nice feel and nice flex. I have the 40kp or 85 flex . I'm only around 5'9-5'10 and 150 and it is a good flex or me. I would recomend trying it for sure.

I believe the OPS is constructed like wood sticks, while the shaft is a normal shaft and blade combination. That would lead me to believe, and Im probably wrong so feel free to correct me, but the OPS will have a lower kick point because there is no hosel going up into the shaft....

Sounds like a good deal...might have to look into those next time I go stick shopping. I checked out the Sickick OPS and while it wasn't as light as some OPS, it wasn't obscene. Slightly blade heavy IMO though...but having it in shaft for allows me to get a lighter blade. The shaft felt nice in my hands and liked the grip.

Most OPS are just fused tapered combo's. So they do have a hosel in the actual shaft.

Most OPS do true....but CCM/RBK dont build their top of the line OPS that way...they build them like wood sticks. Thats why sometimes you can find vector 10.0's with a wood blade (compostite shaft) and so on. Thats why I was commenting that the sickick still has the chunk of blade going into it, but not as much as a hosel I would think.

I was an my LHS again last night, picked up a new tapered blade and looked at the Sick-kick shafts again.

How is that patch of grip?

It seems kind of wierd...

I think I may snag one, but I must admit, I was distracted by a G. Murray pro-stock Syn. SE...lol

I really need to stop going in there...

I played with it for the first time last night, felt pretty good about it

Stick actually feels lighter now with a blade then before when it was a OPS

just to add.

I love easton 85 flex and i can't use anything higher than this. i tried 2 rbk reg flex and they both felt too stiff for me more like a 95-100 comparable th the tps reg.

However, the ccm v10 reg flex feel very more like a 85 easton. but the v130 reg flex is just like the rbk..

How does the grip on the SicKick compare to other shafts? I've never really liked the feel of grip shafts, but a light grip might be alright.

I agree. My Sickick is an 85 and feels quite stiff. Almost as stiff as my 100 flx SL.

just to add.

How much did you have to cut the Sickick vs the SL?

OK, bought a Sick-Kick shaft, reg. flex.

I inserted a CCM 8.0 blade(Doan pattern) and used it in one drop-in session.

A couple of things:

1) 56" is too long. I ussually have my tapered shafts at 52", I wanted this one a bit longer, so I had to cut off 3 inches!..Good thing i got the regular flex.

2) The patch of grip down the sides of the shaft could go a bit lower down the shaft...After cutting it 3 inches, when I hold the stick in my normal position, my bottom hand is just at the end of the grip. If I was any shorter, or had to cut it anymore, that gippy patch might not even do anything.

3) After using the shaft one time at drop-in, I like it, but I'm not "blown away". It's a little bit on the heavy side and I wouldn't call the kick "sick" or anything. But, it was only one time and I'm certainly not going to base my complete opinion on that...

The length will probably be my problem as well. Like you, I usually go with a 52" tapered shaft. As I like 85 flex, I'll have to cut a Sr RBK/CCM shaft 4 inches, which should increase the flex by around 12%, thus making it a 95 if their regular/40kp really are 85 or 106 if they are still 95.

Maybe I would be better off with a 53" mid-flex and cut that an inch or a longer hosel blade like the dolomite 2's.
