Shot Blockers

Recommended Posts

I have wondered why someone would want them fitting closely to the boot. With the fenders what seems to work is the gap between the fender and the boot that absorbs the impact instead of transferring it directly to the boot.

I was thinking that, too. You want air there, either open, or in foam padding, to help absorb impact. That's what we do elsewhere, like open air in front of a sling on the shin in some shin guards.

I was just going to ask how these would work for someone recovering with an ankle injury. I broke my ankle last weekend. When I come back I want it to have a little more protection, but wasn't sure if these cover the ankle.

They work great to protect this, lol:

Looks like my ankle...2 breaks in the tibia 1 in the fibula though. I find out tomorrow if I'm going to need any screws or plates.

I'm afraid to take a puck there when I'm all healed, so I think I'm going to invest in a pair of shot blockers.

With mine I got crosschecked right as I was crossing over with the puck to go behind the other team's net. All of my weight was on my left foot; the ice was pretty chopped up as there was only about 3 minutes left in the game. I heard and felt it break, lol. Drove home the hour from where I played at... doc the next day... surgery the day after that. Crutches for 5 weeks. Skated on it at 9 week point. Broken Jan 13th and started playing again in the fall. Was very cautious first couple times out but that's worn off. The surgeon said it'd be stronger than it was before. I hope he's right!

Where did your break(s) occur?

What caused that?

I was skating cross ice to hit a guy in the corner behind their net. He started cutting behind the net and as I went to angle him off my right foot caught a divot in the ice and it pulled me right into the boards. My right ankle took all my body weight and momentum. I knew right away it was broke.

Mine was what's called a Weber B Spiral Fracture. It's hard to see but it angles up from the inside of the fibula near the bottom towards the outside of the bone upwards at an angle. The doc was nice enough to only use the short plate and 4 screws as he knew I play hockey and also enjoy road/mountain biking and didn't want a huge plate in there, lol.

Bump. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Why not just give them a call and ask them. Their number is right on the page you linked.

I called and it said this number is disconnected and there was no email address. I also don't have long distance so I didn't want to keep calling other numbers to find it.

Does anyone know where I can purchase online the ankle protection " Max Pro Defender Ankle Guard" mentioned here: http://www.skate-mate.com/ankle-guards.html

I cannot seem to find it at any of the major retailers. Thanks.

Majer Hockey as well as Toronto Hockey Repair both stock those. (they are both located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.) I think they both post on ebay...try searching ebay under sporting goods - ice hockey.

hope that helps.

I recall seeing them at hockey experts as well (dixie and 401) in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

I dont remember how much they go for unfortunately.

Anyone that has owned the Skate Fenders know which size is better if wearing a size 8D Mako? The sizing cut off for both med and large is an 8.
