Any mountain bikers on this board?

Recommended Posts

HAHAHA.....the look like Brothas from different Mothas. ;)

Nice lookin NRS too.

Congrats on the well rounded family.

Thanks, love the Giant c/f stuff as you can tell. Just went on a short 6 mile checkout ride. Very nice ride compared to the old aluminum frame, wow. Pretty certain that I'll have a whole lot more inspiration to ride the road bike now. Just need to clear out that trusty old R700 and XtC DS1 stuff. Got a Blackburn carbon fiber frame pump too since the old one is too large to fit this smaller compact frame. Moved the black skewer parts to the back and then moved the white ones up front after painting them silver to match the fork dropouts.

Swapped out the AC CR-350 wheelset (yes... it's for sale!) and put on Shimano Dura-Ace WH 7850-C24-CL carbon fiber clinchers. Also a Garmin Edge 500 with cadence/HR. Waiting for the neutral color head unit to arrive so I can swap it out with the blue one. Pretty cool using the Garmin and Google Earth to show post-ride info which can be recorded/downloaded. New wheels ride very nicely to say the least. Found them on eBay for a great price brand new in the box/bags.

Lol, hey, I did have the NRS out this weekend too! :P :D Just had to limit where I rode since we've had so much rain/flooding many trails are under water right now, argh. I actually ride the mtb much more than the road bike. ;)

ps, lol @ the ESC key!

Did my first charity ride last weekend.... 2 days/150 miles from Quincy MA, to Provincetown MA and I have to admit, I'm hooked. I just joined a local riding club, and now I just need to get back into serious "slimming down" mode, and save up for a bike upgrade.

I don't but there is a guy on my team who is trying to get a few of us to try it over the winter. They do lots of track somewhere outside of Philly and he mentions Texas alot. To me cost of travel+bike might have me considering cyclocross this winter/fall before track. Sean is our track guy and can dig up his email if you like

Does anyone here do any track or fixed-gear riding?

Always wanted to try cyclocross.

Nah, you dont need to get me his email or anything, thanks though. Theres a velodrome thats not too far away from me, and I'm really considering joining their cycling club and getting into it. Maybe start doing some Cat 5 races.

anybody been to Hardwood Hills near Barrie, Ontario?

Live about 30 mins from the place. What would you like to know about it?

Well, the time has come. I have decided to jump into the world of road bikes. It comes as I prepare for my first ever triathlon attempt, taking place next summer. Therefore, I need to purchase a road bike and figure out all the quirks of it and start training on it.

I have rode mountain bikes my whole life, and thus, know NOTHING about road bikes. If anyone can steer (pun intended) me in the right direction in terms of new/used, size, speeds, materials... well everything, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have always truly admired road riding, and really look forward to getting on the pavement and putting all my thoughts behind me and going for a serious ride.

Thanks a bunch, guys.

Mtbr.com has a nice classified section. Ridemonkey http://www.ridemonkey.com/classifieds/ is another good place to start. In biking you get what you pay for. I would be less concerned over frame brand then what the bike is specd with. IMHO LX, Sram X9 is the furthest down the line I would purchase. Also putting money into a decent wheelset is worth it. Most folks will tell you $500, I would around the $1K mark to get something that is solid, well speced, and not in need to of too much upgrade(and you will if you ride it enough). Think of it is buying right the first time so you can spend more time on the trails then in the bike shop

God I love it when I'm picking up a patch kit or something small in a Performance and someone brings in their DB $395 bike and the mechanic tells them 3 weeks till they get the bike back....I being of mean spirit just want to point at both the owner and wrench and laugh and laugh and laugh.

This years bikes will be on closeout soon, visit your LBS and make an offer most they can do is say no. Most shops are struggling in this economy and most reasonable offers will not get you kicked out the shop.

Hey guys, Just curious... anyone ever hear of Fezzari bikes? I heard a recent review on a podcast. They do a "custom fit" process based on specific measurments, and sell direct online.

The prices seem pretty nice for what the frames are equipped with... I just feel leery ordering sight-unseen.
