thinner shin guards

Recommended Posts

Jofa and light shouldn't be used in the same sentence. There are better lighter and thinner (yet still protective) shins out there---Easton Stealth, Easton Synergy and the Nike V series.

you can't have tried on a lot of Jofa's then.. Lightness is one thing, but if you add the word protective to the sentence, you will end up with Jofa/RBK's

There are simply no other brand that can compete with Jofa when it comes to shinpads. 9 out of 10 NHL players will tell you the same thing

The old xx70's series (those without the hyper-x extension) from Jofa is the most popular shinpad ever among NHL forwards.

Again, as I mentioned before, Jofa is the most protective that is why NHL players use it--their livelihood is based on them not getting hurt and playing. For most of us, there are other options in the market since we aren't in the NHL and don't have 225 lb defenders ramming us in the wall at their level.

My new RBK/Jofa 6k's shins seem pretty damn light to me. Over a 1/2 pound lighter than my Bauer 8000's. I tried on the Stealth S5 and S9 at the same time and if they were lighter than those 6k's then it wasn't by much. I felt no difference in weight.

Bauer 8000s are a pretty big pad. The essential design of Jofa's hasn't really changed over the years--they still have deeper pockets for knees than most---they have dropped the weight a little probably because of materials. They did that to stay competitive because there a lot of options out there.

I have some CCM v8.0s, which I wouldn't mind changing to something smaller and/or lighter. Do you guys think any of the ones mentioned previously would fit the bill for me?

I've taken some direct shots while reffing with my ref shin guards and they hold up as well as my player shin guards.

The ref shin guards are a lot smaller to increase mobility so you might want to try them out.

Well, I skated my 1st game in my new 6k's... LOVE EM'!

I can't comment of protection yet as I haven't taken a slapper off of them, but for comfort and weight - I'm a happy camper. I definitely felt the weight difference from my Bauer 8000's. The felt good, they stayed on my shin, my knee felt completely protected....

I'm not sure if the reduced bulk helped, but I potted 2 goals tonight which has ended a pretty big drought for me.

I've never worn it, but at the tradeshow, Crocs claimed their foam is 10 times denser than traditional padding, so they were able to produce equipment with less material. If it does protect as well, it was lighter.

so what size crocs are you planning on taping to your leg. ;)

Actually, I really liked the concept of the shin pads and I'd like to try out a pair. The concept of being able to clean the pads just by hosing them off is really enticing.

Don't leave them in your car on a hot summer day though, they will probably stink it up something aweful. For some reason crocs "rubber" smells weird when it gets hot, smells like burning rubber and tar.

I never had a problem with mine on vacation in Aruba and I wore them every day. The only thing that annoys me is the squeeking when my feet sweat.

I have to avoid crocs, that smell will scar you. If you've ever opened a box full of them that have been sitting in a hot truck you'd feel the same way I do. *gag*

Will the croc material be able to breathe? Thats the only thing id be worried about.

there are holes in the shin pads for added ventilation.

Crocs. How does anyone ever wear those? I gag just looking at them, nevermind on a hot day... They smell like tar like TBL said.

I wear the sandals, not the clunky looking ones. Ugly as they may be, they are really comfortable and I have yet to smell this odor you guys are talking about. Then again, I hose mine off on a fairly regular basis.

the sandals have less rubber so it's probably a lot less apparent. But believe me, if you put a few pairs of crocs together and they get hot they will smell BAD. And I'd estimate that two shin guards would be about equal to two pairs of standard crocs.

It's a good idea though, don't get me wrong there.

Wait until they fully mold to your leg. Its like your not wearing a shin pad.

I just learned yesterday that the equipment is still being marketed as Fury, but it has Crocslite (or something like that) as its padding.

Do the RBK 6K Shins have the removable calf protector? Are these slimmer than the 2006 7K shins?

I have a pair of 2006 3k shins as that's all they had at the time and the only regret is that the padding on the top of the shin seems to bunch up under my socks & pants.

That's why I always cut that padding off. Really no need for it.

i find it easier to just fold it and tuck it under the knee liner!

Maybe i'll try those suggestions with the pad. I noticed the 6Ks (and 4Ks) don't look like they have that pad on top (or it's smaller).

Anyone know if the calf protector on the 6k is removable? I see it was on the 7Ks.

My LHS does not have the 6k. I currently have the 5k from a couple of years ago, and would like something less bulky. Is the 6k noticebly thinner and worth an upgrade, or only marginally?
