Painting Hockey Gloves

Recommended Posts

So I got a pair of the CAMO print MIA's at like 65 % off retail. I was wondering if any of you guys know what paint or substance they use in the pros when they paint over gloves ? I would like to paint them all black. Thanks !

With nylon you may get better results by dyeing them. I'm not sure how that would affect the foam, however.

then again, I've seen spray paint disintegrate some foams as well.

I'm guessing it would only do that if you get glossy paint? But I dont think glossy paint would even go shiny on Nylon.

I have used Rustoleum and Krylon spraypaints in the past on all-nylon gloves with great results. Even though I used gloss paint, the "rough" texture of the nylon keeps it from looking glossy. It still looked like nylon fabric.

Definitely use spraypaint because you can control the application better. Use multiple light coats rather than "going for broke" and weighing the glove down with a lot of paint. Spraying also allows you to do creative masking, if necessary. Use cloth hockey tape for masking around tricky areas like fingers and finger gussets. You can use blue painters tape to cover larger flat areas such as palms, if you want to save on the hockey tape.

I wouldn't use spray paint as I'd fear it would degenerate the leather/nylon or the foam beneath and possibly flake off.

I just used a marks-a-lot on mine and it worked fine. Doesn't look streaky at all (although, I bought a very nice/expensive marker just in case) and when the glove gets hacked up or what not I can just re-apply a coat and it keeps them looking decent.

The only thing which is matt-finished and works on nylon gloves would be this here:

I think similiar ones should be available in North America as well.

Side note, where did you get MIA's at 65% off?

Valiquette Source for Sports, it was only the camo print ones, from 249.99 down to 99.99, but its not like the camo print one preform better then the other colored ones haha.

Glidden latex

Wouldn't that make the gloves shinny ? because I would hate to have them all shinny.

It was a joke. If you have nylon gloves, you should dye them, not paint them.

I have red white and blue colored TPS Bionic gloves which are a few years old, but are the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn.

However the colors won't work with my new team, so I would like to paint them, preferably black and orange or black and white.

I believe they are leather, but I am not sure. Ideally I would like to cover the blue and red portions with black.

Any suggestions?

you don't know if they're leather or not, that may be a helpful bit of info if you want to get help from this board.

Like I said, I think they are leather, but they may be a synthetic leather I am not positive. The gloves are a few years old, and there are no tags on the inside indicating what the outer skin is made of and multiple internet sources turned up zero relevant results.

Take them to a (higher end) local mens shoe store. I had a pair of blue leather TPS and needed them black for my new team. So I spoke to a worker at the shop and he said he could just use black shoe die, the kind they put on mens dress shoes. So I left them overnight and picked them up in the morning. They had a little extra shine to them, but nothing to complain about.

Bionics are synthetic leather. I had a pair like 5 or 6 years ago

So can they only make them black?
