snapshots ruin blade?

Recommended Posts

ive been chipping and braking blades left and right, but i think the reason is that ive been taking so many slapshots, if i take less slapshots and more snapshots, will the blade last longer without chipping, cracking or ruining the blade?

Depends on the blade. With my Vapor XX, the blade got chipped and cracked after a few weeks. With my Easton ST, the blade is nearly indestructible. I also find that wood blades fare well with slappers/snappers.

I think a good shaft and Easton ST blades would be a good bet, less money to shell out for replacements.

i have had serious problems with blades lately with chipping and cracking and it can probably be traced back to the large amounts of slapshots i take. I am seriously considering going back to a 2 piece just so when these blades break it isnt as expensive to get back on the ice.

No offence but it's pretty bad , when you change your game ( not taking slapshots ) in order to get some extra lifeout of you stick. Really I find that troubling. If it's that much of a problem stop buying 200 dollar OPS.

I don't think you'd ever have the time to consider whether to take a slapper or not during a game. When the opportunity to shoot emerge, it's so very little time to act. The same moment that you start to reflect over such things as blade wear, the opportunity is over...

Hey, after all it's one of the fastest games in the world, right?!

It's like you where reading my mind, I too find that troubling, I take a ton of slapshots, thats my biggest weapon, over the years I've managed to build a good rocket, I would change sticks long before changing my game...

I agree with that other dude that ST blades are tough but they fail to meet the feel of the Steath explosion, that feeling of hitting a one timer just right under the cross bar is almost as good as having sex

The reason people buy OPS is because they think it increases their performance. Adjusting your game because of the stick seems to defeat the purpose. Just my 2 cents.

If that's true, I don't want to be around for your goal celebrations.

...

In other news, I agree with the poster that said that adjusting the lie of your blades ought to resolve some of your durability issues.

adjusting your game to save a stick is kinda weird. Im sure slapshots arent as easy on sticks as a wristshot, but oh well, buy a cheaper stick.

the only time i think twice about taking a slapshot is when ive tweaked my shoulder, which happens fairly often.

if i had the option of taking a slapshot or taking a snapshot and had enough time for either id take the slapshot hands down. I wouldnt adjust my playing style just to save the sticks unless all my sticks are busted and im playing with a broken one lol

OPS produce the best results on snap shots, not slap shots.

On the original question, if you're going through a lot of blades, it could be an issue with the way you take slapshots.

Could you use a cheaper stick or shaft and blade combo in practice? Taking a ton of snappers/slappers helped me to get the motion down but I broke a OPS blade and a couple woodies that way. But I don't take 50+ slappers in practice anymore so I don't bust up my nice sticks.

If the problem is in practise , I would deffiently invest in a shaft and blade combo's or some woodies. Although I still use my OPS in practise if you think this will be better for you do it. Although after ahving a bunch of practises and fewer games that OPS might start feeling different.

Why would you practice with stuff that you aren't going to use in a game? Different sticks aren't going to perform the same way.

I'm not saying I would , I am giving him a suggestion becasue he seems to nto want to use his expensive ops in practise but use them in games. So what do you expect me to suggest?

I don't expect you to post anything, I guess I should though.
