iPod Transmitter

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for one of the those ipod transmitter things that allows your to play your iPod through your car radio. Does anyone have one of these? and were did you buy it? I'm looking for one in the $20-30 range, I don't need one of those $95 devices.

Thanks,

Adam

They are not too good. See if you have an aux. outlet in your car so you can just plug it in. If not, get it hardwired. It may cost a bit more, but its well worth it. I cant stand the transmitters.

Really? Like the ones that play through the lighter hole?

$30 ones are shit, I had one, and it was great for about 20 minutes, now it gets a lot of static.

I don't use it at all anymore.

I'm contemplating just shelling out for a new car radio, that has the input for the ipod, not worth the bad sound otherwise, just frustrating, driving past cars and their radios interfering.

I use the cassette one in my truck, works like a dream. My cd deck is kind of old so I use a transmitter and its alright at low volumes. Invest in an aux ported cd deck.

not sure about those...but I did buy one off ebay. Cost me $1.99, and like $7 for shipping. Its one of those that you plug into the lighter holes. Only thing about it is that you cant really blast the music, otherwise you get a bit of static. If you put the volume on your ipod up to about 75%, and use the car stereo to regulate the volume, then its pretty decent...

If you have a cassette player, definitely go with on of those adapters, they are cheap and work fine.

If you don't, i think its better to just get a new deck with an aux output cause the fm transmitters aren't very good. If you really want to go with an fm transmitter, the more expensive it is, the better it is in this case i think. I have a Kensington one right now and its working pretty good but i still might go with the aux option.

I have one, paid more than I wanted (I think $80 CAD), but it works perfectly. Has 8 pre-sets, so if there is static on one station, you flip it over to the next until there's a clear one. I haven't had any problems with mine at all. I think it's a "monster" I'll double check later today.

My family has two vehicles. A older VW Golf and a O1 Toyota Sienna. We had the transmitter for the Sienna, and it was very staticy. The Golf we just used an adaptor cord and it works great. If you have an spot to put the adaptor cord Adam, definetly stick with that.

The reason I went with a Pioneer head unit...

Pioneer CD-IB100

It hard wires from the head unit to the interface to your iPod. You use the controls on the head unit, not on the iPod.

It's fantastic will cost about $60 USD.

If you go with anything, go with the Monster iCarPlay or any Monster Transmitter. You can get one off ebay for cheap.

Keep in mind that this will always be a little staticy because you are modulating what is already out there. Try to find a station with just static and those seem to work the best for me, otherwise you will get interference if someone else is transmitting on that frequency.

Obviously as said before, use a frequency that is not in use in your area. Usually the top and bottom of the FM bands are wide open (88.1, 107.9). The sounds is average at best.

Cassette players give you better consistency, as there will not be any interruptions of the signal, but the sound can be very tiny and pretty average also.

Your best (and toughest) option is an AUX input. If your car does not have one stock, they are very easy and pretty cheap to install at your local car-electronics shop.
