Got my new skates

So I go into the store hoping to find some ccm vectors that fit. I walk in, and amazingly... theres no vectors there. "great" I think to myself as I start to browse the other skates. Just then, the owner walks up and we start some small talk about skates. He starts to talk about the new mission s400 and s500, Iam thinking "Ok buddy, I know about these skates, I dont feel like paying that much money, especaily since the stick deal was over on the 15th". Just after I think that he says, "By the way, the stick deal has been extended to the end of the month". Wow, thats luck. I decide to try out the s400's, just because I never planned on paying the amount of money asked for the s500's. He lets me try on a size 10EE, It fits pretty good, but because ofthe recent topics on here about small skates, I decide to try out a 10D. The only thing is, he doesnt have them in the s400, so he lets me try on a pair of 10d s500. They fit perfectly. I told him I would need some time to think about it, then he says "Sorry we dont have the s400 in your size, but I'll give you that pair of s500 for the proce of a pair of s400". So that puts a smile on my face. But then I rememebr something... Iam moving, andthe stick is suppose to be sent to me.. How will that work? "No worry's" he says. "Just put down the address of the store for the stick, so it will come here, and you can take one of the l2's I have here home with you today." So needlessto say, I took the offer.

So basicly, I got a pair of s500 for the price of s400's and an L2 stick... with 2 blades.( I heard you only get one blade when they mail it). And took everything home on the same day.

Wow, nice guy. Too bad I didnt know about it earlier, otherwise I would've earned some more dough to get a pair of S400 rather than S300.

I will second that! If you establish a good relationship with your LHS owner you will always get better service and better deals. Plus you are supporting the sport in your area. If everybody ordered online then the local shops would close and you would be left with no place to go when your need something quickly or you want your skates sharpened. Maybe the next round of t-shirts should have something like "Support your local hockey shops" in white lettering on the back.

Still, that's a crazy business deal for him, that's probably up there if you add it all up, what he paid for the stuff himself from the manufacturer.

Similar thing happened to me today. My buddy was looking for skates for his son and asked me to ride along with them. His son loved his Vapor THGs and they were looking at the Vapor XVs this time around. He called and the rink in York said they had them and would hold them for him. I pick them up and head to the rink, and I'm expecting a catch since they quoted him $189 for the skates.We arrive and the skates are XIs, not XVs. Since his son is moving up a size he tells him to try on everything that's close.

Meanwhile, I see a sign saying they have 8090s, so I ask for a pair of 10s. The kid replies "I don't think we have any." He never offered to check. Anyway I look at the ones on display, the tag says size 9 but the skates are actually a 10. Great fit and feel, plus they're selling for $349.

Anyway my buddy's son is wearing an 8090 on one foot and a XV on the other and he says the 8090 feels better because it isn't as tight. The Vapor was a size 7.5 the 8090 an 8. The kid selling the skates was ready to fire up the oven at that point. I had him unlace his skates and slide his foot all of the way forward and my buddy was able to slip 2 fingers behind his heel, obviously way too big.

I told them to try a 7 and everyone thought I was nuts, since the 7.5 Vapor fit perfectly. They dug in the back and could "only" find a 7 in the 8090. Fit very well with just a little room for growth. FUnny thing is, my buddy, who wears a 7.5 supreme, fits into the 7 8090 perfectly. So he's counting on his son breaking them in for him.

Next thing he tells the kid working, who he happens to know, that he was only looking to spend $250 or so on XVs. So the kid offers to take of an additional 15%. While they were trying to figure out what the price would be, I offered $300 as a ballpark estimate. Long story short, he got his 8090s for $300 despite the fact the people in the shop were clueless.

The shop is a joke for the most part. Some of the guys are willing to cut a deal so it isn't bad at times.

the rink forbids hatsand shirts that show the name of the shop i work at in the rink. Every stick time i goto i wear a jersey w/ our shops name on it. :P

Just a question, been sick for a few days. Posted in the thread above, Crosskore stated that the Mission skate and stick promotion was extended to the end of the month. I hadnt heard that as of yet. Was this extention just at his LHS or for all shops? Had some car issues that sucked up my cash for new skates a few weeks ago but could swing some new skates now. If someone could let me know that would be great as I would still like to pick up a free stick with a skate purchase. Thanks

As far as I know, the promo ended on the 15th.

That's what it said on the literature and on the site.
