I love Crosby but Jeter is a complete media superstar, and that's what a lot of this voting is based on.

lol@Gordon beating Bonds though

A guy who drives a car over one of the best players in his sport ever.

Jeter is one of the few guys in the league that many people have trouble disliking. As a Yankees fan, I've talked about this numerous times... Same goes for Ichiro, David Ortiz and other players like that. They play hard and are extremely talented, they are kind to the media and respectful to fans.

Also:

*Jeter has championships under his belt.

*Jeter is the captain of the Yankees, not the Penguins.

*Jeter has proved himself over time, instead of over two seasons.

*Jeter doesn't wear gold crocs.

Well TBL, if your going to throw the point in of Jeter proving himself over his what 13 year career and not 2, why even put guys with lengths of careers under 5 or so? If that is going to be a big basis, then it's not even going to be fair. Also, look at the supporting cast that Jeter has had to win those World Series championships, I mean the Penguins roster is starting to add up and could be possible contenders in a few years, but I mean its not like Jeter went out and won all 4 of those buy himself. (Also, this isn't an attack, just a few questions and statements about how wrong this segment on ESPN is flawed). Now back to the discussion.

He's also over 30 years old, I'm not sure how that works in this context.

30 is relatively young for a ball player. You can play well into your 40's..especially now that "Astro Turf" has pretty much been eliminated. That new rubberized stuff is WAY more forgiving on the knees and legs.

Jeter plays baseball for the most popular team in America. Crosby plays hockey. No brainer. Its just like Peyton vs Amanda Beard.

Amanda who?...

From the point earlier that saying Jeter is 30. I think he was making the point that Crosby is in his 20's and that most of the people viewing this would be over that age. Just what I picked up from reading that.

You didn't factor in that no one gives a rat's fat ass about hockey outside of those who play it.

exactly why jeter will probably win by a lot, not many people like/watch hockey

Or watch swimming...

I predict that it's a 95-5 split for Jeter. No one watches hockey, anywhere.

EDIT: Considering the panel is 30% of the vote (retarded!), then Jeter only needs 21% of the fan vote to win. Sid has no chance, PERIOD (although everyone will agree with me in saying that).

EDIT 2: I laugh maniacally as I see Danica Patrick ranked 6th in her bracket and Big Papi is ranked 8th, with Maria Sharapove ranked 4th in HIS BRACKET! WTF?! Not like ESPN has the smartest people working there anyways...

i don't like these panel guys. they won't even consider ronaldinho (who the guy even said is the biggest athlete in the world in the biggest sport in the world) over kobe. and they're not even looking at the players, they're just looking at the sports. hockey's not big enough so they won't go with crosby, the host is the only one who even talked about his accomplishments. same thing with beckham, soccer's not big enough so they won't pick him no matter what.

Well you have Keyshawn Johnson, what has he done that he can sit around and talk about Who's Now? Then you have Kirk Herbstreit, if this was about college football, he'd be great, but in every other sport to really find out Who's Now out of all athletes, not a good pick. Then you have Michael Wilbon, I admit, I try to catch Pardon the Interruption on a regular basis as I think him and Tony Kornheiser put on a good show and I'll admit, the guy is a good sports reporter, but again is biased in the sports that he would only watch and is interested in. I personally like how Stuart Scott gives a perspective of each athlete and their accomplishments but overall the Who's Now segment paired with the panel that was chosen, it's ridiculous and besides a couple I really see it as a joke. Just my $.02.

Didn't catch the sarcasm, I guess.

Wilbon is actually a hockey fan. He's said many times on PTI that there's nothing like being at a playoff game. But even if they're a fan, no one there will be promoting hockey.

He has also said many times that hockey in America doesn't matter. Nobody denies the fact that playoff hockey, especially in person is amazing. The fact that nobody goes to or watches the regular season games isn't debatable either.

Actually, I don't know how the results they show work. I assumed that the percentage they show was just the fans' vote, considering you can't have 36%+32%=100%. If they did include the panel vote in the result showing on SportsCenter, then the fan voting was very close (51%-48%), but if they didn't, Jeter won by a mile (76.34%-23.66%).
