Shock Doctor Blower with any bag?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried modifying or cutting their bag to use the shock doctor blower? I was talking to my friend and he wanted to try it but I didn't know if it would work or not. I don't know how good it would seal it if you cut a hole in your bag, but maybe someone has tried?

What I've found with my SD bag is that it's air tight except for the exit hole. This forces the air flow yo circulate thru the equipment. Most regluar bags are not airtight, many have air vents. So I think what would happen is if you used the blower with a regular bag, the air wouldn't circulate, it would just exit at the nearest vent. If I leave the zipper on my bag open just an inch, air comes out there instead of the exit poing.

SD does have a octopus attachment now for the blower, you can stick the hoses in your skates and gloves, so it will work for them. You could also crack your zipper and put the octopus leg in the bag, that may work, again depending on your type bag.

Thanks for the info JR and jimmy! I had a feeling the blower would have to fit flush and after looking at the bag up close, it looks like one would have to do more than just cut a hole in the bag...but the attachment sounds like a good idea too.

Off topic, but somewhat related, in the USA hockey magazine this month, they have an advertisement for a new bag, can't think of the name off hand, mag is at home, where you basically stack your gear onto a rack that protrudes either side of the bag, once it's stacked for drying, it just folds down into the bag.

It looks like a pretty cool idea for someone in an apartment who does nothave room for a rack, they just unfold the bag and there it is, all hanging.

There is also a review and advertisement for Torpso skates

i was wondering how you find it for killing the smell off your gear? i don't play enough to need to have dry stuff the next day but i want to keep my gear clean.

Why not just buy one of those cheap 30 gallon tubs at wallmart, make a hole on each end, one for the octopus to fit into, the other for the air exit. Then just dump your equipment in, put on the cover and whala.

Get a charcoal filter for the hole like the bag. From what I understand you don't want to be pumping ozone into your air.

If i move in with my girlfriend in the fall I am considering the tub/SD blower set up.

No, it was literally a hockey bag, with two arms, I guess is the best way to say it, that raised vertically from the bag, you hang your gear vertically, then it folds inwards toward the bag, you zip it up, and it just looks like a regular old hockey bag.

I'm going to see if I can find a link somewhere

AHA, I'm not crazy..

I-radd, thats the name of the dang thing

As I said, probably beneficial to those space restricted players, who still would like to hang their gear out, looks too cumbersome for my liking though

High concentrations of ozone are not good, but the stuff coming out of the SD is very low, that's why it takes 3 hrs. I wouldn't worry about the ozone, the charcoal is prob there to reduce some of the foul odors that exit the bag.

The new attachments for the blower this year are hoses and skate attachment, no carbon needed when you use them.

not to go offtopic, but i am searching for similar solutions, but also with other generators...there was a thread :

"Freezing gloves kills bacteria",

were mcguyver analog999 built a ozone generated tub (look at page 2)...anybody tried this...i am thinking about doing it in a small storage-room that I have, set up with a generator plus a ventilator, my stuff in there is on a drying-stand and on racks...still searching e-bay for a good generator, any ideas or experiences?

it seems like what jimmy said about buying a tub and using the SD blower would be just like your ozone tub but a lot easier.

And safer. Anytime you use a large generator, you should not be in the house. One accidental breath can kill the cells in your lungs instantly.

Please help me, I just don't want to open up a new thread. I bought the shockdoctor blower (with bag), but need a step-down converter for the use in Germany. To buy a right dimensioned one, I would need to know the watt / ampere power of the blower. I just can't get the info of the sd website, nor any shop-site. Could anyone check this out for me please, or does one know a good converter, or any problems with the use anyways..? thanx..!

Thank you Jimmy!

that saves me money, I was in doubt and was to order a converter with 1000W, now I think 300W are enough. Do you think the blower works on 50H ? (it has to!)

I ordered the same unit as analog999, but I haven't been as successful. I bought one of these:

http://www.air-zone.com/ebayfraud.html

and as you can see I thought it was more powerful than it is. It still might do the job in a tub, even though it can't purify an entire room. I need to compare the ozone output from this unit (0.08 ppm) vs. what shock doctor does or the ozone machines in the shops.
