Rinks for sale?

Recommended Posts

I posted on this subject several months/year+

Where would someone go to search for hockey rinks (businesses) for sale? I have tried the "business 4 sale . com" type websites and I have only seen 1-2 rinks for sale NATION WIDE. I know there has to be more out there for sale than that...I personally know of 2 rinks for sale that AREN'T on this list.

Anyone know of a better source? Maybe hockey only website? Not looking to build a rink, rather purchase existing business. Just interested (curious at this point).

Thanks!

Amen to that DarkStar50...I agree! Get talkin to some realtors, see if you can pique the interest of some of those with rinks they may want to get rid of.

Ah yes, I believe this was the one someone suggested last time. I just couldn't remember the name.

Thanks.

The problem with making an offer on a business that is "not for sale" is that you lose a lot of negotiating power when the current own is a) not motivated to sell and B) knows you want HIS business. Plus, owners that aren't looking to sell typically have an over exaggerated opinion of the worth of their business. And finally...I am looking for the "dying business in a booming market" where I can go in an rejuvenate what should be a successful business, but isn't.

It's unlikely that you're going to find that in the hockey world. Anywhere that has much hockey interest is also going to have a lot of competition. A couple years ago, the city was trying to sell this place but they wanted a fortune for it. Rink

with as many corners that are cut in the building of rinks, you would be much better off finding a location that needs more ice and building from scratch. If a rink is up for sale, it is my best bet that there will be a lot of work that will need to be done to it. Most rinks don't need to be run right to make money. They are eaither in the right location or not. Good management can only do so much for a rinks bottom line.

Just curious...Around how much did they want?

Thanks

I know in Massachusetts, they've been looking for people to buy the local MDC rinks (run by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts), as they can't afford to keep them open too long in the winter. I've heard rumors locals have looked into them, looking to privatize the rinks, etc.

I would look into something like that in your state...

Okay...back on the hunt for a rink for sale. I got side tracked on another business venture/investment.

Anyone? Bueler?

Searched Rink Magazine and various business brokers sites on the web. Now searching through "word of mouth", or more accurately "word of type"... ;-)

Check into the Monroe Multi plex in Monroe Michigan. Its city owned and ran by Can Lan. I know the city is very interested in un loading this complex. They have two NHL size rinks. one is cement based and the other is sand. The facility is very well kept, 8 locker rooms also.

Thank you...I will look into it.

Wait...is it owned by Can Lan or the city?

Can Lan runs it the City owns it. I have heard that the sity had it built and had their own employees running it. Well they ran it into very bad finanical problems. Can Lan then stepped in to provide the operational piece. They wanted to get more American facilities started.
