Tollway Question

Recommended Posts

I live in Michigan but have an ipass for the Illinois tollway system since I drive through so frequently. I'm wondering if anyone knows how these things work? Although, I have it registered to my car and license plate, would it work if I used it in another car, without registering that make/model and plate#? Or would the other car register (on the cameras) as not paying the toll?

I know we've got some people who frequently drive on tollways and thought someone would know how these things work.

Trivia junkies pay attention.

The TollTag/EZPass system was the second invention by David P. Cook in 1989.

He made his millions in his frist invention Blockbuster Video in 1985.

Not bad for a high-school dropout. ;)

YES AND NO!

IL changed the rules on that. It used to not matter, you could put it in other cars. Now I think they check the plate number against the transponder and if they don't match you get a ticket.

Just looked it up on the I-pass site:

Can I use I-PASS in more than one vehicle?

Yes as long as it’s the same class vehicle. You must register each vehicle to the I-PASS account. In the case of an unsuccessful toll transaction using the I-PASS, an unregistered vehicle will be subject to toll violations and fines.
