Do Grafs run narrow?

Recommended Posts

I was just at the PIAS in Downers Grove IL., and there were a pair of pristine looking 301s size 9 for $160. I have a wide foot, i wear Easton 9ee but can wear a D width in Vectors left loose in the forefoot (i think i like D better now).

Anyway, I tried these on and they felt like a vice on my foot! I tried looking on the tongues but couldn't find a tag, nor under the right footbed.

So like the title asks, do grafs run narrow? Or were these just maybe a C width?

I wish they were a bit wider, I would have whipped out the credit card in an instant!

I got a pair of 735's early this year for a steal. I was reluctant to buy them because I also have a wide foot and they felt very tight, but at $100 for new skates I decided to give them a shot. Thanks to all of the MSH boys, I took their advice and had the skates stretched. This did the trick and I now love the skates. If you can spare the $160, give it a shot.

They were pretty bad. Had I not been able to stretch them, I would never have been able to wear them. Chadd or JR (or anyone else more qualified than I) can comment, but I think stretching can increase the skate size by almost a full size.

I have a pair of Graf 301's. My forefoot is wide enough to need a E or W in some skates, the 301's being one of them. As a reference I can fit in a D width Rbk 5K pump, but needed a wide in a Graf 704 as well. I can say that I wore the 301's only a few times, took a fairly weak clearing pass off the inside of my ankle and was done for the night! Not a lot of protection in that skate.

I wear a EE in an Easton skate and an E width in a CCM skate. I have tried Graf 703's in a wide skate and they where not too bad. They where a little tight at first but after about seven games began to get really comfortable. If you can wear a Graf skate go for it because they are an excellent product. Aside from the slightly less protective aspect ( your foot does feel like you have it stuck in a bee's nest if you take a shot off them ) there isn't a lot of bad things I can say about this skate. Then again, you can say this about a lot of skates on the market, that aren't as high a quality as Grafs. If I wasn't so pig headed about the protection aspect of my equipment I'd wear Grafs too.

i wear the 301's before getting them i was in bauer supreme in a E width I had to get a W width with the grafs. I have taken a bad shot off the ankle before and had to come out for a few shifts till i could feel my foot again, but then again i have done that in other top end skates as well. No skate will ever stop you from taking bad shots off your skate and hurting you. Even when you start playing at higher levels the shots get harder.

My grafs are especially bad when it comes to blocking shots. with my Vapor XXs and Missions L7s I could take blasts off the foot and not flinch- even weak little wristers give me stingers with the Grafs, but they just happen to fit my foot better than any other skate. You give up protection when you go with a more traditionally made skate. The newer stuff made of synthetics are simply more protective.

The G/Ultra G line of grafs may be more protective than the traditional skates.

graf makes a wide and regular skate but each skate runs differently i think its the te higher the last number in the model the wider the skate

703 being narrow

705 regualar

709 wide

Each of those boots is actually available in regular and wide. They get progressively deeper the higher the number gets. 709 is deep, 703 is shallow, 705 is middle.

the width is different in each skate model as well as the depth.

xx3s have a narrow heel, moderate forefoot, moderate depth.

xx5 has a fuller heel and iirc is a bit deeper than xx3

xx7 is a deeper fit with a softer upper portion (actually detached from the lower portion) to allow for greater ankle mobility. I'm not sure where these stand in terms of width.

xx9/Ultra G70 is the widest and deepest in their lineup.

IIRC, the xx7's fit width-wise more or less the same way they fit depth-wise: bigger than the xx5, smaller than the xx9.

The xx5 is definitely deeper than the xx3. I can't even get my foot halfway into a 703, but I can get it inside a 705 (though I can't last it up).
