Changing from 100 to 85 flex?

im 135 pounds 5'7" and use 100 flex st's. 85 feels way to whipy for me and i take alot more wrist shots then slappers. So its all about the technique.

theres no way u can load up a 100 flex properly if ur only 135pounds, not if u want a quick release anyway. plus im guessing u have to cut it down if ur only 5'7" which increases the stiffness further. im 6' and 198 and 100 flex is just about spot on for me, i would probably benefit from a 95 but with a bit use on the 100's they whip up a bit more. for ur weight and height 85 is probs the max u should be using. i dont think its all about technique or what would be the point in flex ratings, they would simply make diff shaft sizes. you cant be getting the best out of those 100 ST's just a thought for next time you buy

A lighter person with a stiffer flex would need to use a lot more downforce when shooting. My shot has very little wind up but I use a lot of downforce to hit the ice and make the stick flex more.

Having said that, I tried a ccm vector that was the 100 flex equivalent and it was extremely stiff and I couldn't do that much with it. However, with the Synergy Elite the 100 feels more like an 85 to me.

Have to agree with most of the people here. The 85 flex certainly helped me in the wrist and snapshot department. A lot more whip on the shaft and I have seen a noticeable increase in velocity.

100-110 flexes were just way to stiff, and were a major contributor to tendonitis in my right elbow (top hand). I have a lot less pain now, and can play 3-4 times a week plus hit the weights twice a week again without any pain.

I've been in 85 flex for years and will occasionally tinker with a 100...One of the biggest differences I see (actually feel) is the give in an 85 flex when receiving a pass or stickhandling.

I've tried both, with good results in each. I'm using a 100 right now but the Easton SE 100's feel a lot whippier than most equal range sticks.

I don't want to really change the topic but I'd like to talk about SE's and flex ratings. IMO, the Iginla 85 flex feels much stiffer (more like 100) than the Sakic, Forsberg 85 flex. Anyone else notice this?

hate to beat a dead horse but ive never heard a consensus on bauer and tps flexes - how do they rate on the 100/85 scale? is there really a a difference for bauers 87 v the common 85? 102 to 100? tps regular is approx 90? whats the stiff? i know a lot of this is just opinion and pp, just wanted to get a consensus.

There's a flex chart up top...

TPS:

Whip - 75

Regular - 95

Stiff - 105

X-Stiff - 110

XX-Stif - 120

Bauer's are pretty much whatever the closest Easton flex is.

I find TPS high end stuff feels like it loads up smoothly, Bauer starts out really smooth than gets stiffer, Easton actually feels like it's stiffer right away. I love the feel of TPS Whip and Bauer 77...maybe if there was an Easton 75 flex I'd be a bigger Easton fan.

I have found the MSH Flex Chart to be very accurate. Personally, I'm a big fan of the CCM "Mid flex" (I use a Vector 6 shaft w/wood blade). IMO, it feels a bit softer than a Mission 85, Bauer 87, etc, but still a bit stiffer than a TPS Whip flex.

I think I found the perfect in between for my needs - Sherwood 95 flex - good flex for the wristers and stiff enough for the slapshots. I also tried an 87 flex Bauer, but while it felt stiff and very responsive for a while, it is now flexing softer than my 85's did.

I can also attest to switching to the 85 flex from 100 flex.

The proof for me was my first session in the Rapidshot. With the 100 flex my accuracy was around 20-30%. I moved into an 85 flex and within mnutes I had already improved my accuracy up to the 35-40% range.
