Nike looking to sell Bauer

Recommended Posts

Burton? They probably have the deep pockets and similar demographics.

Slight problem - Burton is owned by Nike.

Is that true? My understanding was there have long been talks, but the "actual sale news" was an April Fools joke, by some snowboard website. I don't know the inner workings of the company, but my understanding is that only Burton owns Burton, though Burton has been purchasing surf companies most noatably Channel Islands.

I don't understand how nike would allow anyone to own the Nike name aside from themselves. While highly unlikely, if Puma bought it, why would nike allow Puma to own part of the Nike name?

Either way, I hope they just revert back to Bauer. It's the only way to go I think. Too much brand recognition and popularity for a relaunch.

Chris I believe you are correct. A look at Nike's 2007 annual report does not show Burton as being a partial or wholly owned subsidiary of Nike.

Even so, I am know that JR knows his stuff and knows that it is not Burton so either way it is a moot point. It was more of a guess on my part purely due to who I could see being a good fit to own Bauer and take it back to its roots (a company owned, built, and run by individuals passionate about hockey).

I am sure we will hear something soon.
