NashvillePreds 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Sportscenter is reporting via Dan Le Batard from the Miami Herald that Ricky Williams is retiring. He's in the prime of his career at 27 years old and just in his 5th NFL season. What a shock...
mack 44 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 At least he has a 4-month head start on the remaining Dolphins for vacation time.
LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 And what great timing for the Dolphins too. Eddie George and Antwain Smith were just signed.
BruinsFanRI 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 I can't believe the guy is giving up all that money. He's always been a little nutty, but this is crazy! I can't imagine he will actually stay retired. At least the dolphins have a stellar QB to fall back on :D Go Pats!!

stix04 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 That was abrupt, i bet there a bigger issue behind him retiring, he's only played 5 seasons?!?Nice avatar mack, Arod got his ass popped, go Varitek! i forsee sum suspentions soon.
BruinsFanRI 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Just because some people play a sport, doesn't mean they love it.True, but it's his job. I don't love my job but I go to work everyday & do what I need to do. Then again I'm sure he's made enough money at this point to live like a king for the rest of his life.Like Stix said there must be more to the story... LegoDoom 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Yeah, like the fact he doesn't like to go outside. The guy has mental problems and just isn't happy too much of the time.
Kirsch 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 I am in shock.I can't beleive this. The shockwaves being sent through the fantasy football world are huge. Like it has been mentioned, he was in his 5th year, and he was one of the top 10 backs in the league. Single-handedly screwed the Phins over too.I am still in shock. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Wanstadt (SP?) made an interestingpoint in the Press Conference when they made the annoucement:If Ricky was thinking about retiring why did he go to mini camp in March in better shape than last year and work his ass off....leaves the team thinking that he's looking forward to the season doesn't it???As a Bills fan, I'm glad to see him go. He tore us up last year.
gopens67 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 i think the issue really was him being really bored of playing football and wanting to go and do other things in life like go to school, travel, and whatnot. Apparently hes a bit of a renaissance man.
mack 44 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Yeah, all potheads are artistic and well-versed like that. This goes back to how he thought about giving up football to play baseball back a few years ago. He's a fruitcake.

hip check 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 If you don't like doing something - why keep doing it. He's a bit of an odd duck for sure, but probably has enough in the bank to be able to coast for the next 50 years. His job was football, his passion is ...? A person like that (unmotivated, unhappy, aloof) could be bad for a dressing room as well. If he's unhappy and pulling the team apart in the dressing room, it may be just as well he left. But it is the Dolphins :D Go Seahawks!
mack 44 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Disregarding the fact it's a game, it was still his job. He pussed out after any other half-decent RB the Dolphins could have signed joined other teams. I hope he's blacklisted on every team if he makes a comeback but it'd be funny to see him try to come back when no one will block for him.
hip check 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 It was his job. He had enough of it, so he quit. Thousands in the workforce have done it before, but because he's a high paid athlete he's supposed to stay in it ? I am not denying the fact he quit, but if his heart isn't in it - let him go! Better he quit than be a whiny, complaining and talented player no one likes.
MNGopherFan09 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 He totally abandonded (sp?) his team. He waited until the last minute to retire. Like mentioned before, he went to mini camp and worked his ass off... why? Now, that there are no free agent backs left to sign the Dolphins are screwed royaly because of him. Way to leave your old team a chance at finding absolutely no one on the market now.
Smith 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Some people have said this is a way for him to get out of preseason and training camp. I don't think so, but who knows.
mack 44 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 They can think that until he files with the NFL and then I'm sure there's a mandatory time of being retired before being reinstated. Plus I heard he was facing a suspension as well for his love of the cheeba.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Call me crazy, I haven't looked followed this guy, but I have a feeling he will get into the whole rap music scene fairly quickly if he isn't already.
