The article on the Palm Beach site said that she didn't have dementia. Just did not have a cellphone.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel quoted a police report that said Emma Francis "appeared to be very disoriented and could not clearly answer" questions when she was found.

It was this part of the story that made me think she might be experiencing an onset of issues. Usually what folks see as absentmindedness or confusion is really early stages of something akin to dimentia. Most folks don't find out a loved one is entering those stages until something odd like this happens.
