help me please

alright, i've been having some troubles with my skates the past couple years in that when i go to turn or do crossovers, the sides of my skates will touch the ice and cause me to wipe out. i lean pretty good when i go to turn or crossover. this happened first to me a couple years back when i tried the mission amp 7's with the old holder on them with the drive shaft, and so i was forced to get rid of the skates after a few weeks...next it happened to me with these ferland 900 skates with the cobra holders...and now i've been noticing it with my graf 502's. im just wondering if this is due to the height of the holders, or what, becuz it gets VERY frustrating when ur playing and make a sharp turn just to wipe out.

also im gonna be lookin into some new skates this week and i might be considering missions since theres not a whole lot of grafs around here, and i was wondering if pitch holders would give me the same problem.

It's one of two things, either your steel is worn down too low or your ankle is bending. I'm assuming that the Missions were new, and none of the skates you mentioned are very stiff, I'm going to guess it's a lack of lateral ankle strength.

It has nothing to do with the holders.

oh, ok. thanks chadd. do you think i'd have better luck with the mission s300-s500's, or maybe some grafs in the 600-700 series?

i really wanna grab the 705's so i'll have a good pair of skates that'll last more than a year, but my lhs hasnt got their graf in stock yet, but they do have the new missions and the deal is still on...tough decision lol

Personally, I like the fit and feel of my Missions but I don't know if any skate will really fix the problem for you. You really need to work on adding strength to your ankles.

im not so sure it might be my ankles tho...my grafs right now have been used for pretty one full year. i go bare foot in them, and theyre about as stiff as a soggy cardboard box...since you said that these skates aren't really stiff, i think i might try and look into something a little stiffer in the ankles so the boot doesn't bend much, if any, when i turn. thanks for you input though. i appreciate it and i hope ur right lol

yea, i guess...and for me, that doesn't seem to be very long cuz my feet sweat like crazy in my skates, and after about 6 months of use, they're mush

Try on some CCM Pro Tacks. They are the stiffest skates I've ever worn and I've been using a pair for over a year about 3-4 times a week and they are still as stiff as the day I bought them.

For ankle strength, off balance leg exercises would help, and the rocket feet exercise. Also, balance boards work well for both your ankles and knee stabilizers. Try one legged squats to help your balance and strength... Heavy leg work may help more than anything else, cz since I've gotten stronger all over my body, I have fewer complaints about stiffnes sin my skates and gear in general, except breaking sticks and wearing out wheels...

my old 1052 tacks maintained there stiffness really well over the 10 months i used them. I've only skated in my vector pros 5 times, but they are a pretty stiff skate, can't comment on long term stiffness though.

i've been reading up on the missions and it says that its softer in the ankle to give more freedom of movement, but would this allow my ankles to move laterally, or does it just mean that theres more ankle dorsi and plantar flexion?

The new Missions won't resolve the problem. Only very stiff skates will make up for your lack of ankle strength.

well my brothers got the pure lites and has had them for about half a season and when i squeezed the ankles they were pretty rigid...i tried squeezing my grafs and i could almost get the sides of the boot to touch lol, thats how soft they are now

I've had my S500s for 2.5 months and the sides easily touch. Around the base of the foot the're stiff, but that won't help you.

Come on people.....Stiffness isn't everything...Remeber concentrated stiffness....You want to stablize the subtalar joint.....The area just below the ankle....This allows for mobility, while still offer support.

If I were you, I would look at a Pair of S300's...Good skates...The right internal stiffner for you skating style...

I agree stiffness isn't everything, I prefer the S500 to every other skate I've tried. I just don't think it's the right skate for him in this case.

i just got back from my lhs and tried the s300 on. my grafs are 8.5R, and i tried on a 9E. they did fit a bit more snug around my entire foot than my grafs did, but they didnt fit as well as my grafs did...i didnt feel as comfortable in them. so i decided i'd wait a week or two for my lhs's graf line up to come in, and stick with what i've been using. i did want to get the m-2 tho with the skates, but oh well, i'll just have to end up buying one

Did you heat fit them? Night and Day....Once you heat fit them, I think you will have a second thought about going back to the Grafs....Also, give the 400's a try...The fit a bit different than the 300's....

sorry, i didnt bake them and try them on...and the s400s were kinda outta the budget, 399.99 while the s300's were 299.99. i'm gonna be sleepin on it for tonight, and decide tomorow if my grafs can hold up for another week or two till my lhs's grafs come in, or try the missions out. but thanks for your suggestions

Are you playing competitively right now? If not, they should definitely be able to hold up for another two weeks. I'd just deal with the slipping out it till the Grafs come in and get what fits you.
