Just got done watching the replay of last night's "game" and I'm wondering how he's still an NHL defenceman. He's not scoring so you can't go with the "Oh he's an offencive defefenceman" argument and I haven't seen him hit anything in ages. I can't believe on this board and our predecessors he was once used in the same sentence as Niedermayer and Lidstrom.

There is a Leafs Fan at work who still swears that he is a Top 10 NHL D-Man.

He had a great season two years ago and before he was injured, was on pace to score around 100 points. Almost as important, he was good defensively too. Last season he sucked, and this year he is even worse. All I can hope for is that the Leafs turn him into a forward, some place where his turn overs and mental lapses won't cost as many goals.

He's got a goal this season already.

I don't think I've seen him play in quite a while. Wings never play the Leafs (fuck Bettman) and I don't have satellite or any game-viewing-expensive-as-hell package.

Belfour used to be top of the league, but there are many who think he should be gone. Hell Hasek and Chelios probably have a few thousand people in the camp for their retirement despite both consistently playing near the top in the league.

Whoopty shit, he could have a hattie at this point and he still sucks.

Watching the Isles/Rangers game makes me cringe that the Leafs seemingly did nothing to get Witt.

He's a victim of the system. He sucks in his own end, and it's exposed regularly because the team's overall defense sucks so bad. It's scary to think Ian White is actually worse defensively, and horrifying to know they are now paired together. They have more than enough NHL calibre D-men, but too many are offensive minded and playing in a system which revolves around risk taking.

Not a chance. Maurice isn't that type of coach and McCabe is still making less mistakes than other's on the team. I can see him requesting a trade before he is sat out.

i'm still laughing at the body check his own net put on him against carolina.

back to power skating bryan

to be honest, I thought it was funny highlight. After bumping into the back of the net he went flying and the look on his face was priceless. I have never seen anything like that in my life.

The Leaf's D is brutal. When you have Gill, Kubina, and an aging McCabe as three of your top four defensemen, that is pretty tough to overcome.

I can not decide who is the worst defenseman in the Northeast Division Hal Gill or Andrew Alberts?

I know that when I think Hal Gill I think offense.

Kubina's been very solid this season and to finish out last year.

He's the only stay at home D-man. White, McCabe, Cola and Kaberle are all risk taking offensive D-men. Kubina's able to play both end well. Gill lead the team in +/- last season and was their best PKer. He was awful in his last season for the Bruins, but much better last year. He'll have some nice goals scored on him because of his foot speed, but he played very well last season (and to start this year). There's plenty of Leafs D to pick on with McCabe, White and even Kaberle playing like he is to start the year, but Gill really isn't one of them. Not when he's able to lead the D in plus/minus when being used as a shutdown D-man for most of the season.

Alberts is coming along quite nicely. Gill could be the winner although some folks in Montreal might put in a vote for Patrice Breeze By.

I think they are averaging giving up 4 goals a game so far and gave up 6 goals tonight and 7 a few games ago...

McCabe spent like half the game in the penalty box against the pens...

Got boo'ed again tonight. Some of those penalties were a joke though, as Fraser did what Fraser does.

Some of those penalties where pretty bad calls, but Toronto always seems to take penalties late in the game.
