McCabe getting hipchecked by the net was funny, but it had nothing on the sheer hilarity of Coliacovo knocking himself into a coma while trying to hit Vaclav Varada.

The Leafs easily win the 'Most Amusing Defense Corps' award, combined with Pavol 'I want to kill the goalie coach' Kubina, Tomas 'I'm afraid of men' Kaberle, and Hal 'I didn't do it!' Gill, who always has the most innocent expression on his face when he gets beaten.

its these kind of guys in the nhl that i have a problem with: colaiacovo, cam janssen, steve downie & others. alot of teams seem to have one guy like this - they lurk around the ice waiting to see if someone makes a suicide pass or has there head down and then they go in for the kill - i like big hits in hockey just like everyone else - but they are always going for the TKO and trying to injure somebody

Yet nobody mentions Jordin Tootoo and his Downie-esque run at the guy from Phoenix the other night. There's a guy who should never play another NHL game.

Cola was definitely trying to make a name for himself that season and he constantly went for the big hit. He was trying to stick with the team in any way possible. He had a couple huge hits that year, Guerin and Bertuzzi come to mind. After that season when he realized that he can be good with the puck, he really stopped going for those big, open ice hits.

lol mccabe just scored for buffalo in overtime :P

Raycroft deserved that game...he played great. Should've won it.

Kubina and Gill were horrible as well and Sundin had some issues trying to cover for them on two of the goals.

Mccabe got taken off the pp... wait wan't that his strength... oh well nothing left for 7 mil

I didn't watch the third period at all, but he was moved off of the first unit a couple of games ago. Hes been playing on the second unit with White.

Why bench him though? I'd be fine with it if it mean Stralman or Kronvall got to play. But I think Kronvall has to go through waivers, and the Leafs don't seem to want to rush Stralman.

You could just tell, when Paul Maurice was interviewed afterwards about McCabe, he was a slip of the tongue from telling him to shove his stick up his ass.

"Well, he's been finding it difficult to, uh, find something positive to do with his stick..."

His cap number is 5.75. That's all I care about. The people who deride him for making $7 million + or whatever his particular salary this season is are morons. With that being said, his cap number is atrocious. Between him and Kubina they have over $10 million in cap space on the blueline. Neither of them is anything closer to a #1 d-man in the NHL. Between Kubina, McCabe, and Kaberle you are looking at close to $15 million, and currently the coach has zero confidence in any of them to send them out for a big defensive situation. That's a serious problem.

McCabe is going to be run out of town and traded for pennies on the dollar...that's the reality. He can't handle the pressure his contract has put on him and I'm afraid he is already past the point of no return in terms of fan support. He could play Norris calibre D the rest of the year but his next mistake he will be booed. I do not believe he is the kind of player with the mental strength to handle such a situation. He is at least trying hard but the results are just abysmal. It's sad because I think on the right team with the right system he could be a real asset again. Put him on a strong defensive team like Detroit or Minnesota and his mistakes would be covered somewhat and he could maybe re-gain some of his confidence on the defensive end while maintaining his ability as a true PP specialist. He has all the skills, you can just see him panicking out there, trying too hard almost, getting out of position, etc.

Just when we are starting to forget his last fuck up... But to be fair he has no business being out there with Antropov and Sundin. Its essentially putting three forwards out there. Bad coaching by Maurice there.

True enough, but that pass...what the hell. I guess Raycroft needs some blame for letting Komisarek beat him on what had to be the longest breakaway ever. I could have caught him on foot.
