greech 4 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Yeah, I'm obsessed with ncaa. Got seasons to BC, Providence and Northeastern, its great hockey for less than 1 Bruins season ticket.

It's so much slower and sloppier than minor league hockey, let alone the NHL.huh. maybe it just depends on who you are watching. i had the chance to watch a wild game(vs. sabres iirc). it seemed much slower to me than watching the d1 hockey i am used to. have never seen an ahl game tho. as far as playing, i couldnt say that the ncaa was any more sloppy play than the nhl was. but then again, both games were pre-season, so maybe that makes a difference... That pretty much makes my point for me.

That pretty much makes my point for me.I've watched minor league hockey and just about anyone on any respectable NCAA team goes on to play minors it seems. There have been quite a few 1st round draft choices playing NCAA hockey and going straight to the NHL recently. Anything below the AHL doesnt interest me when it comes to minor league hockey. I've watched a ton of hockey in my day, and I'll agree that the college game is sloppier, but there is a lot of spirit and more noise in the buildings than you'll see in NHL or AHL arenas. One thing I notice that the pros have that a great majority of college players dont have is "hands."

I find the players play with a lot more urgency as well, especially if there is a UND-Minnesota weekend or when the Badgers come into town. Hockey at its most pure brings out the fan emotion and noise...Just my opinion.

Juvenile chants, drunken students trying to impress their friends and not being able to appreciate a great play made by the other team makes the game less enjoyable for me. Most of the time I end up rooting against the home team just because of how obnoxious the fans tend to be. That goes for pro and college.
Gongshow11 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 theres nothing better than a home team scoring and the student section standing up and all pointing at the away goalie and yelling "sieve, sieve, sieve."it's also great when your at ice level and the band plays the tune to rock and roll part 2 and they toss in the words, "hey, you suck!" Jordan 13 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Here is a twist on the topic...I live in Canada, and university hockey here is amazing to watch. Most of the players are a little older and have finished Major Junior A careers. They are awsome players and frankly, it is overall better than Major Junior hockey. NCAA hockey is a step up from Major Junior, so I'm not surprised if Canadian college teams are a step up as well. I noticed a couple USHL teams played teams from the QMJHL prior to the season during an exhibition weekend.

flyguy1697 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2007 I like watching college kids play because they play with such heart. Being at that school is most likely fulfilling any kids dream because most of us aren't going to the big show. I love watching the bone crushing hits and their feet moving a million miles an hour for an open puck. D1 and D3 games get good especially if its a good rivalry. I like watching major junior too but nothing compares to a good college game especially with the atmostphere.
DCott 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2007 smaller arenas + very devoted fans + kids who have something to prove = IMO the most exciting hockey
LarrieNation9 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2007 I usually saw around 8 Clarkson University games. Great environment, especially last year with a good team, the student section gets pretty loud and the pep band is great. The horn and bell at Cheel arena is one of the best combinations I've ever heard. And when St. Lawrence comes to play it is downright crazy. Northern New York winter nights, D1 hockey games are the thing to do, especially for high school kids or local bar leaguers, sadly living in Canada for the hockey season means no D1 games.
