rbk skate problem

Recommended Posts

the tendon guard on my rbk talon pumnps i got from source for sports is tearing right where it meats the top of the boot. I took them in and they said that the tearing shouldnt get worse but if i wanted i could either have my money back or choose a differnt pair of skates... they said they wouldnt give me the same pair cause it would probably do that on the new pair and they dont wnat to replace my skates every 3 weeks. I have only used them 7 times since i bought them and they fit my feet amazingly well... i never had pain with them from day one so i dont really want to switch skates. Also ive tried on like, id say 3/4 of the skates there in my price range and the rbk's fit the best and i really like them. So now should i stay with them and keep them despite tendon guard issues that could potentually get worse or should i take my money back and go choose a differnt pair of skates from somewhere else?

and if you want i can get pictures

edit: Picture sorry for bad quality i took it quickly with my camera phone

both skates are like this on both sides of the tendon guard. I Like these skates alot and i dont wnat this to get any worse cause the only other skate that ive found even remotely as comfortable to thses without converting my inlines is the vapour 40 which i only tried on for shits and giggles and plus i dont have that kinda cash floating around.

how do you take your skates off? if you use your foot on the tenon guard and then kick off that skate, that is more than likely the reason that you are seeing the tenon guard tear right there. you could also take it to a shoe repair shop, and have them stich it right there to prevent any further damage. or you could take your money, and buy a new pair of the same skates, and be extra careful with the new pair.

Get your money back, and go to another store to get the same skates. The other store can then replace them if the problem happens again :P

i think i might get my money back, but im weighing my options... ill probablly go try on some graf skates and see how well those fit me then if i find a pair ill swap out the cobras with e pros or lightspeeds and ill be set... if not ill get my money back and order a pair of 5k's from somehwere or if i can talk my parents into helping out a little maybe some 9k's.

If anything tell them you dont want to get another pair of 5ks because things like that happening is unsafe and your safety should be paramount :P

lol sounds good. they would only be paying like maybe an extra 100 or so cause i paid for these and have enough to pay for most of a pair of 9k's.

has anyone else had any problems with rbk tendon guards or is this just me

Well, probably not many people have "Source for Sports models. Mayby in Canada, but not in the US. I sell all the rbk skates, 1k-9k and haven't had but one failed tendon guard or tendon guard issue, and that customer pulled the skates off using the guard as leverage. Your SMU model is likely different than the regular retail models, so you'll have to find other "Talon" owners to get the answer to your question.

Yeah it happened to me but only on my right on the inside.

Idk if its the white pumps cause i use the black 9k and have been using them since July. I do take care of my skates but not to the extreme.

The tears shouldn't get much worse if at all. I have seen a handful of those tears on RBK skates. The guys kept using them without trouble. More a cosmetic problem than anything else.

i'm having a similar problem on my 2006 Pro Tacks, but it's not a real issue. it just seems like regular wear and tear, as the tendon guard flexes back and forth during games. it hasn't snapped though, so i think it's really just an asthetic issue. has your tendon guard actually broken?

I had the 5Ks last season wich are probably the same skates as your talons?!

The exact same problem occurred on my 5Ks tendon guards after 3-4 weeks of use. It stoped when the tears were about 1-1.5 cm long. Its no big deal i'd say.

But i had some other issues with the 5Ks after using them not even half the season. The biggest problem was that some of the stiff material in the ankle area broke and a sharp peace came though the liner ...

I would say the 5K is more of a beginner skate and if the RBK pump line fits you i'd get the 7Ks!

yeah im most likely taking them back, my mom is leaning toward ordering me a pair of 9k's cause its cheeper than buying them here in canada and its like a sure thing they will fit. It woulda been nice had i had this problem before my whole family went on a two week trip to the states without me. I dont mind waiting either cause i injured myself last night in practice. So in about an hour im off to the hospital for some x rays.

yeah i know that. its actually shaped a little differnt if you have seen both skates together and the tacks tendon guard is also alot less flexible. but yeha they are quite similar.
