Straight blades for stick

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a straight curve or close to it for my next stick. Any recommendations, any brand? Currently using Synergy with Drury curve.

Since you're already using an Easton, the Forsberg should suit you well. As far as clones go, there's always the Warrior Fedorov, NBH PM9 and TPS Tkachuk.

I'm still looking for "blanks" without much wrap that I can mold myself to try and tweak curves.

It would be nice if Christian, Sher Wood or Ballistik sold blanks so you can make your custom curve. $5-10 for just a big blank blade that you can shave, rocker, customize the lie and curve 'till your heart's content. I'd love to make a nice gentle curve, even less extreme than the Modo/Forsberg clones, try really tall lies, a toe hook, etc.

They wouldn't stand up to game use, but you could get them on the ice for a few shots to see how they perform. I wouldn't have to keep buying various sticks to try everything, just buy 3 or 4 blades, tweak for a few weeks, then order a whole batch of custom goodies.

Not a bad idea, but I'm thinking ABS might be an easier/cheaper material to use for a blank.

Are you RH or LH and do you have any cut OPS or tapered shafts?

I used to like the bauer Linden, but I don't think NBH makes it anymore. It was almost perfectly straight, but with a little heel curve and a loft. Does anyone elso know the current equivalent if they make one?

EDIT: just checked, the Linden became the Jokinen, and it's now called the p106

And the Jokinen is now the Gagne (the Gagne used to be the P10 (Shanahan clone) and that was formerly the Bure curve). The current Gagne pattern is still the P106. They just make it confusing by changing the players names around.

I can see dropping names of people no longer doing promotions, but moving the names around from curve to curve? At least NBH makes it easy by having no-name designations.

I've been wondering why they don't follow the same convention though (P91a, PM9, P106 all have various combinations of letters and numbers, why no P91, P09, P16) unless they use the same names for pro curves.

Anyway, I've been tossing a few emails back and forth with David from Christian (not sure his name here) and I'm looking into getting some blades.

The one I have is from a while ago, and the pattern has probably changed then. I figured the bauers on ebay would be like mine, but there aren't any good pictures on there

It hasn't changed since it was called "linden". Bear in mind that wood blades tend to vary a bit from one to the next, so you may have one that is not accurate.

Chadd-I'm LH. Currently I'm using an older silver Synergy with a Drury curve. I started using this curve when it was the available graphite blade for the T-Flex. I also have a Synergy 2 shaft that needs a new blade. I would like to try a close to straight blade for it. I really enjoy setting up my teammates. I believe a straight blade is more beneficial to a passing game.

A little off topic:

With todays technology like heat moldable full composite skates (S15, one90, KOR) wouldnt it be possible to make heatmoldable composite replacement blades?

They could make straight blades with different lies and maybe some with simple curves (heel, mid, toe) and then have something similar to the skate oven in the LHSs to give it the curve you want!

I'd think something like that would sell pretty good?!

Yes, it would sell pretty well but any composite blade that you could heat mold wouldn't be that stiff if it was designed to stand up to baking so it would be counter productive.

If the material had never been cured it could work. That would require a fairly low temperature curing process to allow you to use a home over or a skate oven. I would assume the foams inside the blade are already able to withstand that heat. If not, that would be another development needed.

My Christian customs have a very small curve, they make a Modano look like a banana. They have lost some stiffness but would have worked for him to try a small curve if he were RH.

Are these slightly soft blades of any use to you? What lie do you use? I'd love to give one or two a good home. Trying to get straight blades from Christian looks like it's going to cost me a bit. Only slight curve I have is currently part of my Montreal OPS (which I love quite a bit) and I've been looking for a whip shaft to pair up with a ~6 lie slight curve. Also been wanting to give 6.5/7 a try.

I tried an Yzerman retail and it was horrid, I couldn't do jack with it. Sakic feels too hooked even, I loose the puck under the curve when I try to reach far and the toe kills my backhand. I just got an Iginla that I'm going to try tonight, but it's on an SL a friend gave me with a toasted heel, so it might break down on me.

PM me if you've got anything laying around.

Slightly sub-5 lie, so no good to you.

Chadd thanks a lot for the gesture. It would have been awesome to try the curve you have. Someone suggested I try hockeymonkey for their pro-return tapered blades. It seems the only blades left are straight blades. They are Mission. Will they fit ok in my Synergy 2?

Assuming it's a senior shaft, yes they will fit.
