Easton S15 Questions

Recommended Posts

Just imagine the howling if this was an NBH product. Ouch!

Easton has stood behind replacing them although now they have little to no stock to replace with. I was told over the summer this skate was not very durable. I never doubted my source but this is a bit much for a top $$$ skate to have these problems.

Go to a shoe repair shop (aka shoemaker) and give em both pairs and tell him what to do. Or take the 9k tongues off and taked them with the pair of S15s to his store. Shouldnt be expensive. Calculate about $10.

Thanks for the heads up for the tongue.

By the way, to all who just THINK to get this skate but have never seen it in real life:

This skate looks very "plastic" on pics. Ive seen Havok ones and i was like "Well, white." But at this point of time ive never seen them in real life. Now i imagine them as a piece of art. You have to see the skaes in person to judge em!

Havok, good luck with your customs. Although not a fan of white skates thanks to Charlie Finley, yours actually look nice.

As for my S15’s, I haven’t had any issues with shredding, but have had to glue several areas of the skate back together. I just want to know that the issue has been resolved before I buy another pair.

Anyone got some legit baking instructions?

Im not a big fan of baking especially not when it comes to Easton skates, but i need some more room/centimetres up front, so i think i have to risk it.

I dont want to overheat them and stress the glue too much.

Ya I was just wondering where you could custom tongues for my S15's and get the easton logos on. Or would you have to stick with what is on the tongue

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I'm shopping for skates and Sportchek here in the GTA has S15's on sale for $299.99 CDN (the X:30's and One70's are of same price)I've tried them on in 8.5R and they are the best fitting skate out of the box I've ever tried so far. The heel-lock is perfect for my skinny ankles haha :)

The only concern I have atm before pulling the trigger on these is the durability factor. I've heard countless accounts on how the leather parts rip off really easily. But then again, I've also read somewhere that Easton had a replacement program going on and that they released a 2nd Generation S15 with better glue and double stitching. Do you guys think the S15's in stock by Sportchek now are of 2nd gen?

I have had both generations of s15's and the s17's there is almost no difference in durability, still that is a great price for the skate.

I see.. I suppose that wouldn't be a huge concern for me as I'll be playing drop-in once a week at most this year and perhaps 2-3 a week next year. Does anybody know if Easton will still be replacing any easily-damaged pairs?

The SE16's are also on sale for $249.99 CDN, will be trying them on too.

As far as durability goes, the two major things that changed between the S17's and the S15's was the toecap was replaced completely, and the stitching of the leather and boot was reinforced. Both of those made a huge difference. They also added a felt tongue to the S17's.

I'm using my S15's for officiating and my only gripe is that after 2 games I can't feel my toes, but that is due to the toe cap being almost completely gone with just the composite part left. And this is after several years of use; I bought them on release day.

If they fit your foot and have your size, I highly recommend picking them up. Better performing skate than the SE16's, in my opinion. I'm picking up a second pair as well. The S17's give me blisters after prolonged use in one go, usually more than 2 games in a row. The S15's do not.

I picked up a pair in 8.5 Wide...the regulars were rubbing against my pinkie toe. Got em baked, cant wait to try them out :D The S15's are the best fitting pair of skates I've ever tried that fit right out of the box. Since this year I'll be playing once a week at most at rec pickup, I really hope durability won't be an issue. For $340 CDN (tax incl) though, I think that's a really good deal :) I'll be posting the review in the Skates section soon.

Eastons seem to fit me feet very well. First pair was 1500c, then switched to S15 last year. Sad to say they finally gave way about a week or 2 ago. The outside of my right boot finally cracked. The composite of my left toe is gone and cracked as well. In terms of durability though, a recreational user should be fine with these bad boys.

holy moly :o how many times do you use them per week? And why'd you switch out of the Razors? Personal preference or is there something bad about the Razors that I should know lol

Most of the time it's personal preference. Like how he has Custom+ on his, I have LS2 Tuuks. If you got the parabolic Razor steel, I'd highly recommended trading those out for the solid non-parabolic version. They'll last longer and won't break as easily.

My pair came with the Razor Bladz II holder and the double scalloped ELITE Stainless Steel runner. It didn't say parabolic so I assume I got a better set of steel?

Hold on, after viewing some review videos, like from HockeyUs, I've noticed that the steel on those versions are the multi-scalloped parabolic LPS somethingsomething...why are the steel different?

In my experience, the people who have durability issues with skates are the people who do not take care of them. If you take care of your skates they will last you.

I probably skate about 3-5 times a week. I take care of my skates, they're cracked from shots and just a lot of abuse.

I'm on Custom+ mainly because I prefer a neutral pitch. Also I found that the Easton steel was a little softer. Could just be me though.

I've got a pair of SE16 with LS2's coming soon, so we'll see how I deal with the extra 3mm. I'm sure I'll be fine.

unless of course you did some work on the steel & profiled it to be at neutral considering that even LS2 (that as you pointed out has 3mm taller rear tower then Custom+) is a -1 negative pitch Custom+ is by far not a neutral pitch.

The first generation s15's were falling apart for everyone, regardless of skate care. I was meticulous in caring for my skates, and they only lasted 3 months. I got s15 customs and they are in phenomenal shape after 2 yrs and 3 months.
