Broke my One90 :(

Recommended Posts

I would have to agree with TBLfan on his conclusion about RbK sticks. I found them very disappointing, mostly the blade. They do feel dead, and IMO wouldn't be worth the money, even for a back up stick. You can't go wrong getting another One90 if you liked your first one. I had two of my own.

Quite a bit of people dislike RBK blades, I really dislike the personally. They feel dead, they don't have good "feel" and they aren't extremely durable...

I'll drink to that.

After a couple horrible experiences with the older CCM blades, I decided to give the Sickick a whirl. I didn't like the shafts and absolutely HATED the blades. They torqued from the very first shots I took, went soft(er) almost immediately and were just overwhelmingly "blah."

Wow...they are really THAT bad? Not even enough for a backup stick? Maybe I really should just stay away from them...I'd have to probably find another prostock One90 as my backup stick...

So I will ask one last time...no one ever had good experience with the old 7K( blue and white) and the new 7k SicKick? I did a search on the forum and found out that there were so much hype before regarding this stick!!

I do see quite a few NHL'ers using those Sickicks (e.g. Sedin's). I am not saying that if pros use them, they must be good. But still...

sorry to threadjack, but how's the sickkick shaft? the price seems okay and i'm diggin the mid flex (its intermediate, but takes sr blades right?). otherwise i'd prolly stock up on mission toxics (had a hat trick with mine last night, and i normally hate pricepoint sticks)

I've never understood this. The compulsion to own one of each stick/shaft on the market just doesn't appeal to me. Why not find yourself a stick you like and buy yourself three or four of the same thing?

I'm a huge fan of consistency. Right now, the only sticks that I have at the rink are my AK27/Sher-Wood 950 combos - four of 'em. All the same flex, all cut to the exact same length, all with the same blade (to take it further, I try to make sure that the graphics on each stick line-up next to one another when I buy them, and I take the time to make sure the tape-jobs on each stick are as identical as possible). This way I don't have to make any adjustments to a new/different stick (length, flex, curve, lie, kickpoint, etc.) each time I break one - I just grab another.

This is one of the reasons I tend to stay away from pro-stocks, as it could probably be somewhat difficult to track down a specific player's stick in any quantity greater than one - and even if you buy two or three when you find them, you're going to be hard-pressed to find more when you break them. Luckily enough, I'm able to find almost EXACTLY what I would want at one LHS or another. I understand that pro-stocks are available in patterns/flexes not available at the retail level, and that many of you guys are much more comfortable playing with something not found in the Pattern DB. But you're probably not always going to be able to find the pro-stock stick(s) that you've gotten used to, which means that you're eventually going to have to adjust back to retail.

good point from lkpt

when i play tennis most good players i play with or watch in tournaments have at least 2-3 of the same racquet, with the same string, or more, just so that they can take out any racquet from their bag and have the same playability.

It's applicable with just about every sport where you might need multiple numbers of a piece of equipment in the event that one become unusable. I'm the same way with my tennis rackets (though I wouldn't necessarily call myself "good" at the sport), golf balls and baseball bats/gloves. It can take a lot of time and trial-and-error to find something you like...why fuck with it once you do?

Good point LkptTiger, but since I only got back into hockey couple months ago after a 5 year break, I just want to try more sticks and curves to really find out what suits me the best. This is the reason why I am getting a different stick everytime I break one. I got a retail Kronik coming and hopefully the Draper(Sakic) curve would fit me as it's one of the easiest curve to find.

Another reason for buying prostock is because all LHS here sell retail sticks at unreasonable prices...$269 for a One90, XXX-lite

Seems to me if you want to experiment, I'd find a shaft in a flex you like, then swap out curves from there.

I'm too broke to buy exactly what I (think I) want, let alone two of that item. I'd be content to have one thing that's pretty close to what I want and another that's somewhat similar. Or maybe two similar shafts and a whole crap load of blades for when I get bored.

Amen. I've got 6 AK27 with custom Christian blades in them. My own pattern, so they're identical. Everything must be the same when you find that comfort zone. I'm very anal about it, as I'm sure other people are here to some extent. ;)

Haha, are you guys trying to lead me to buying an AK27 shaft? Maybe I should look into that but Warrior stuffs are extremely overpriced here in Vancouver.

Ended up buying another One90 prostock with a Shannon (from the Canucks) curve. It looks like Naslund curve...102 flex with both Tactile and a very light grip. Can't wait to try out my wristshots tonight!

I wonder if the tactile grip will actually protect the stick from getting too much paint chips.

Anyways, thanks everyone for their great advices.
