Tried a pair of NBH XXV's

Recommended Posts

Was having issues with my ankles pronating ALOT in my Vector 6.0's and on a whim tried on a pair of Nike Bauer XXV's at my LHS....

These babies felt very comfy with a no bake fit and I did not roll the least bit.

The forefoot area seems to be the same as my CCM's but it seemed to me the heel had a bit nore roominess.

Any thoughts?

I've had my 25s for about a month and a half and couldn't be happier with them. I haven't taken a shot in the feet yet so I don't know how protective they would be but they seem solid. As far as the weight, I'm coming from 8090s and don't notice a difference, but then again, I don't pay attention too much to that sort of thing.

Just out of my own interest ( I've been waiting to see some opinions on the xxv's depth ), did you notice much of a difference in depth between the 8090's and xxv's ? :)

Just to stay on topic...does anyone have any thoughts regarding the boot volume/heel volume versus the CCM vectors?

I noticed that when I had them on in the store that i stayed almost perfectly flat on the edges of the skates, versus my Vector 6.0's I had to really think about my foot position to keep them flat, otherwise i would roll inward on my ankles.

uc-cp-sf-db, although I can't comment on the vectors, I don't have a inward roll ankle problem. i've never had that problem on any skate unless it was really loose.

booyaa, IMO the depth is about the same. I'm also using Superfeet insoles which I think might take up a hair more volume as well.. I had them in my 8090s too.

Thanks for the info,I think I'll be taking myself off to my LHS to try some of the xxv's on this weekend.I'm in Externo E60's and was starting to consider some new skates with a little more volume. :)

My foot shape is wide and somewhat flat with a wide heel.

I can't see getting into Graf's, as I am a new skater/player....Any opinion's on the XXV being a good choice for my foot shape?

ok both skates fit me and i like both of them alot. should i just go with the 25's and save 200 bucks?

You need people to tell you whether or not you should save $200? ;)

just stick with the XXV, its not going to kill you to save 200$ instead of getting a pair of XXXX. besides your still growing.

I've been thinking about getting a pair of XXV's or XXIX's as well. Great value for the price. A high end skate for a middle of the road price. The fit is also perfect for me as well.

I have the XXXXs but I would have definitely taken the XXVs over them if my LHS had them in stock at the time. I'm a lot bigger and more than likely a lot stronger than you but it's still a ton of skate for me. I can definitely get the boot to flex but sometimes I feel like the stiffness of the boot is just too much.

Yes, you really don't need that stiffness in the skate if your not doing it for a living. It's nice to have over the long term so the skate has durability and doesn't break down as quickly, but how many of us skate five or six times a week like the pros? I've always found a middle of the line skate has plenty of support and durability for the amount of hockey I play ( two sometimes three times a week) I really don't need much more than that.

After reading all of these comments I'm almost regretting getting a pair of XXXX's yesterday. I could have easily got the XXV because I only play like once a week beer league. At the store there were a bunch of people trying on the XXV's since it seemed to be the 'go to' skate for anyone looking to upgrade but not spend a ton. At $289 it did seem like a hell of a bargain.

The kicker for me was I had $400 in gift certificates so I figured if I was ever going to shell out for a high end boot this is the best time to try it. It only cost me $50 of my own money when it was all said and done. I thought about getting XXV's and then some other equipment or a stick, but figured I'd always wonder what the XXXX's were like if I don't try them!

I'm sure I'll love these skates though. I have been using Supreme 8000's (which have been just fine and are barely even used after 2 years of playing) so I'm guessing these will feel fantastic. I'm sure I'll tell myself and anyone who asks that they feel fantastic no matter what. :D
