College Hockey: Some (pics) of Mich vs. BU

Recommended Posts

I work at the University of Michigan and attend many of the games. I was at the Michigan vs. BU games in late October. I took a few pics of one of the games. Unfortunately, I'm terribly late on posting them on here. Sorry.

Here you go, two College programs with great traditions:

It was a great, fast-paced series. Michigan won both games handily. I was hoping for a closer match-up, but BU is a little down this year. Still, two great/historic programs that's great to see face-off against one another!

.............. gotta love college hockey at Yost Ice Arena!!!!!!!!

Great pictures. Just curious, what camera did you use to take those?

Just a small Canon PowerShot s410.

My wife has a nice Canon 30D digital SLR. Man is that thing AMAZAING! I left it at home on this night.... just wanted something that I could fit into my pocket.

I've been dying to get out to a game at Yost for years now - since I was about seven (when I somehow saw a Michigan/Ferris St. broadcast on TV - the day I became a Michigan fan). I've since watched dozens of games on TV and played a couple games of a Detroit-area tournament there, which only intensified my love for the place. Great venue with a terrific tradition; not to mention the kick-ass student section - I snuck down and got a seat in the Michigan student section at the 2003 Frozen Four...they're some passionate people, and pretty nice to me considering how much younger I was compared to the rest of them. I don't think I was the only one damn near tears when Vanek beat Montoya in OT.

Where's the emotion on the BU bench? The game is about to start and everyone (that we can see) is...sitting.

the vapor xxx gloves BU has are the sickest gloves i have ever seen

WORDDDD! They are the exact reverse of my pro XXX's. V sexy looking gloves.

They also say our new rink here in Melbourne is going to look allot like that, olympic size but, without the top tier of seats.

The atmosphere is intense and formulated on long Michigan traditions. Yost is an incredible venue (like your stepping back in time to 1923). The building just has a 'presence.' There are so many more college hockey arenas that are more 'state of the art', however, very few can match the atmosphere at Yost!

Yes, I work for the University so I guess I'm biased. However, I'm a native Vermonter (love the Catamounts too)and an east coast hockey fan by nature. There is really no venue out East that is as FUN as seeing a game at Yost.

I really cannot convey it to you. You really need to come and experience it.

It's really hard to gain the zone when they stack the blue line like that.

Ok, I thought it was funny. In fact, I really did laugh (ok, chuckle) out loud.

I agree. Maybe it feels like you're in 1923 when you're in there, because it was built in 1923 and has never had a facelift. :P

I want to get out to a game at Lynah, too...I've got my heart set on getting to a Cornell/Harvard match-up, but don't think I'll ever be able to get my hands on tickets. Wanna help a brother out, Zach?

Anyone ever been to St.Lawrence in upstate NY? Bob Mckenzies kid plays there. I was there this weekend last year for the Miami Ohio game and Bowling Green game then I played there on the Saturday. That is a hell of a barn. All wood redone just incredible.

wolverine, just wondering..what's the general feeling on Winnett around the rink?

Winnett is well a respected Freshman. Very skilled, hard worker that has a tremendous upside.

Here are his current stats through (10) games:

....................................GP...G...A..Pts..Sh..+/-...No-min

16 Ben Winnett...........10...2...1...3...14..+3.....2-4
