Odd how the ocean is blue as well as the sky. That has to do with the wavelengths of light. I believe blue has the longest wavelength and because of that it is able to travel deeper into the ocean. I think red is the first color to be "strained" out by water, which is why red coral normally looks black underwater.

I didn't explain that correctly, I will explain it better when I get a chance... if the thread isn't closed by then.

Off topic:

Mack's Brian Peppers/Che avatar is pretty amazing.

On topic:

Some guys on my team like to use a shorter stick because they "stick handle" better due to "being closer to the ice" and something about a "center of gravity". I forgot the lecture. I prefer sticks that stop at my chin.

I've handled one of Hemsky's Stealths. He has it cut really short for my height and he's a few inches taller.

but don't forget to factor in Hemsky's blade lie, it supposedly has a really high lie so a short stick would be appropriate for his situation.

A couple days ago I noticed Geoff Sandersons stick. He uses the same Response lite as I do and you can tell how much he cut off by how close the TPS is to the end of it. I measured where he cut it off and at six foot Geoff uses a tad less then a 52" from heel to end stick, thats short.

6 foot with skates on is a stretch. Sanderson is known for his speed, certainly not his size.

Now Joni Pitkanen on the other hand has a golf club for a stick. It's TINY, especially for a defenseman. A good majority of the Flyers media and fans nicknamed him "Mini Stickanen" during his time in Philly.

I dunno. Maybe his Stanley Cup ring and 40 years of playin' the game told him. Bottomline, though, every person in the class agreed that their stickhandling improved as a result.

A lot of young players would be better off with shorter sticks than they currently use, but I still don't like the gesture.

Stanley Cups and years of playing earn him my respect for his ability to play the game, but it's not worth much in terms of coaching. Obviously, playing experience earns him credibility and means that he knows how things should be done, but there is a lot more to it than that.

I know plenty of former NHL and multiple Stanley Cup winners who can't run a practice or teach worth a damn. Am I allowed to use the word "damn"?

personally i kind of regret never having anyone telling me to play with a shorter stick when i was younger. i use a 58" stick right now and i played with a 61" stick when i was about 3 inches shorter.

If you can pull off using a longer stick, go for it. I would say that skill and practice can negate most of the disadvantages of a long stick while a short stick will never have the reach a longer stick will have. Just my 2c though.
