greech

Philly Strikes once again.

Recommended Posts

Second period, Bruins up 5-2, Andrew Alberts down on his knees playing the puck, Hartnell comes across from center ice and puts his hip into Alberts' head, sending him straight down. Dirty hit IMO, but what is gonna stop this?

Intent to injure or not, Philly's players just seem to be throwing the body at a lot of vulnerable players this year. Granted, hits are thrown at guys in vulnerable positions pretty much every game, but the Flyers are either being coached to hit everything that moves regardless of what may be the consequence, or they just have some really shitty luck.

for the record, i haven't seen this one yet.

LMAO @ this thread.

Yeah, what Hartnell did was vicious.

You do realize he let up, right?

My god....I wonder what half of you would think of hockey in the pre Buttman era. Holy shit...it's appears Bettman's influence has trained and brainwashed a generation of figure skaters.

Hockey's future never looked so bright! /sarcasm

so you're saying you're down with the nasty hits that leave someone injured (Bergeron) and now maybe Alberts? somethings loose.

Did I say that? Jesus...you want to talk about something being loose pal? You're the one with the screen name Purple Cobra! You might want to talk to someone about repressed feelings.

Anyway, watch the replay. Hartnell really could have done some ugly damage but lets up. You guys act like Philly is on some mission to play as dirty as possible. You do watch other games, right?

So, he rammed his head into the dasher at half speed....? I wouldn't call it "letting up" unless he avoided the headshot.

it has nothing to do with that. It has to do with guys taking cheap shots on players for no reason. It needs to stop. If you want to send a message, get proper positioning on a guy and lay him out, shoulder to shoulder. You don't hit a guy on his knees or from behind. It's disrespectful and dangerous.

Let's think less of the fact the Flyers keep bashing peoples heads in like mashed potatoes and more of the fact that The Bruins and Flyers are developing a pretty damn good rivalry here.

DIdn't see the hit so I'm not going to comment on that part. There has been a significant reduction in the amount of respect players are showing each other. It has been discussed many, many times over by coaches, commentators and players. As long as organizations continue to draft and put those guys on the ice, you are going to see the cheap shots continue.

During the 70s there was a stupid amount of violence in the NHL and something was done to attempt to reduce it. For the most part it worked. If the league is unable to get a handle on the recent spate of cheap shots and borderline players, it will continue to suffer. The NHL needs exciting, offensive players in order to thrive as it did in the early 90's. Having talented young guys on the shelf with injuries and marginal players on the ice throwing borderline (or worse) hits is just going to continue the NHLs tailspin in overall popularity. It's also going to continue to have an impact on the number of kids whose parents allow them to play hockey.

After seeing that hit, I'm in favor of a lengthy suspension but it just isn't going to happen. I'll also bring back my comments from earlier in the season that teams should be fined every time one of their guys is suspended and that amount should go up with each additional suspension.

Sure, Hartnell slows down some, but don't tell me that he couldn't have avoided that hit if he wanted to. It's a cheap shot on a defenseless player. If you need proof, watch the replay, you'll see him thrust his hip and elbow into Hartnell's head at the end of his stop. That wasn't an unavoidable accident.

I like how he swings his hip, to pin the guys head into the boards. Yeah, that shits clean  I say at least 10 games. Lets keep setting examples of these morons.

He'll get 3 or less. Jones put Bergeron face first into the glass on a play that he could have pulled up as well...and he only got 1 game. They might take into consideration that Alberts was in a more defenseless position...but I doubt he'll get 10G.

I agree he will get three games. It was a cheap shot. The worst player in the NHL can stop on a dime, he could have stopped well before he made contact.

Meanwhile you have Brian Burke complainaing that the NHL has been too severe with the new suspensions. It's amazing how one guy can embody so much that is right while embodying so much of what is wrong with the NHL. Someone also needs to explain to him that when he took the job in Vancouver he gave up on being able to make league decisions.

this ones worse than the Jones hit IMO. length traveled, contact with head, and injury... ramp up the ban another 5 games and give him 30, see if the flyers get the fucking message this time.

I also agree that fines against coaches and teams needs to be examined.

Until someone takes a run at Getzlaf or Perry, then it will be the repeat of the "Sedin is not Swedish for crosscheck me..." speech, and he;ll be calling for someones head.

I like Burke too...but I think he tends to flip-flop when it is convenient for him.

Worse than being out for the season?

The number of dirty/questionable hits thrown by Philly players this season might result in someone going after Danny Briere's knees or head as a retaliation/statement. I'm not necessarily saying it would be the right thing to do (am I?), but at this point I think it's a real possibility. If the Flyers want a gongshow, I'm sure that a team somewhere down the line will be willing to give 'em one.

How long before the NHL calls Stevens out on his ability to control his players?
