too much wax on laces

I was in a bind and had to buy some laces before a game. Bought A&R heavy waxed laces as that was my only choice in 120" yellow at my LHS. Talk about heavy!! Does anyone have a trick to get some of the wax off? I thought about heating them up in a dryer or with a hair dryer and wiping or scraping off the wax or something like that. I know laces are not a big expense for most, but my only LHS only carries A&R waxed yellow 120" in the heavy so I'd have to go online to get that color and length in a Graf yellow. I thought if there was a quip tick it'd be worth it to mess with them.

aside from spending 5 bucks on a new pair the only thing I could think of is like an SOS pas or something along that line

A lot of it usually comes off when you lace up the skates for the first time. Otherwise roll them up into a ball and just work the laces (like a pitcher breaking in a new ball) and a lot of it will wear off.

try the Elite Hockey Laces- its a baked wax that does not flake off everywhere. sonic tips too- pretty nice.

When i get a new pair of wax laces, i fold each one of them in half twice and hit them on the wall a few times. I find that they still hold well, but without all of that flaky excess wax.

Back when I used waxed I used to wrap it around a pole a few times, hold an end in each hand and pull back and forth. Works better on a square pillar. The edges get rid of the excess wax.

run the flat side of a butterknife down the laces... quite a bit will flake off.

I'm one of those guys. Can't seem to get enough wax. I tend to get rid of laces every few months even though they're not finished, just to get some more wax. I've tried reapplying wax but for some reason it just doesn't seem to work as well.

Thanks for the tips. I can certainly afford a new set of laces, but will have to order. Will order Elites from the Monkey! Will try suggestions with this pair.
