How are the Vapor's holding up?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at skates and had the opportunity to try on a pair of Vapor XXV's. Money B)

Wondering how the durability has been with them before I pull the trigger.

I've been seeing a lot of them come thru for sharpenings, they are holding up just fine. Only been out for 6-7 months though so hard to judge durability, but if they are like their predacessors, they'll do ok.

I would carry a spare set of steel in your bag as you'll eventually break a runner.

My Vapor XIX's, last year's version, are doing great a year in. The holder's taken a beating, got some nicks and cuts in it. Also, the plastic inside the top part of the boot where the Achilles tendon is has worn through the lining. Sorry, I don't have a good understanding of skate anatomy!

I just got a pair about a month ago, and after some initial adjustment issues coming from CCM Vectors, I love these skates. Very light, absolutely no foot pain...

My XXX's have held up very well...bought them the Xmas before last. Still haven't cracked a blade as everyone tells me is going to happen....maybe I've just perfected the flamingo shot blocking technique, haha.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed I haven't seen any threads on here complaining about problems like with the one90's and Eastons.

I imagine it's going to be a big adjustment coming from Pure Fly's, lol. Prolly feel like I'm falling over backwards for awhile.

everything i've ever read and anyone i've ever talked bashed the last generation of vapors because they fell apart. it suprises me that you say they are rugged. i hope the new vapors are built better.

Everything is relative. For a light skate like the Vapors they are as durable as other light skates. Now if you want to compare them to the tanks of the past, you can't. Skates now are built for performance, not durability. They are also marketed-planned to be "throwaways", with new renumbered or renamed models coming out every year (or semi-annually). Just how many people would buy a Madza 2000 when the Madza 3000 comes out. Great marketing. Bad for LHS's but good for the consumer.
