Doug Weight shipped to Anaheim

Only the Andy McDonald part. (Niedermayer return rumour)

I assumed whoever went in the Niedermayer return transaction would be for a pick or prospect that wouldn't bring much salary back.

Interesting move. I know I was hearing Burke only really needed to clear-up somewhere around $800,000 for Niedermayer. If Burke just wanted to do that he probably would've sent someone to the minors. But I think I remember hearing he was looking into ways of potentially improving the club rather than a pure subtraction move to clear-up space of Niedermayer. Clearly he thought this was a way to do that. Niedermayer better single-handily win the cup himself with all the trouble he's caused.

Now they both Weight and McDonald are not doing all that well this year but Weight's probably the better player provided he's got the desire—I'm not sure he necessarily does. Maybe the trade sparks him but at this point in his career the guy's probably sick of being moved around so who knows. At least if that's the case he isn't under contract past this year (as he's over 35).

i also read that selanne is coming back 100% thats why then needed to make the deal for macdonalds salary.

"The Blues have agreed to trade Doug Weight to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for who is believed to be Andy Macdonald (Center). Selanne will be back 100% my source has added."

HE could also get #39.

...and give McD 57 *L*

But...Weight always seems to go back to St Louis...so he'd have to give him his number back next year

This deal kinda shocked me considering McD has played so well before, had a great year last year, and now his linemate is coming back (Selanne). But I understand the need for cash. Sometimes being the business that hockey is really sucks for a player. You win a Cup and then get dumped the next season.

I'm just waiting for the Marleau-Koivu deal to go through...

In an interview I was watching this morning, Burke also said he'll be looking to make a smaller move ofter the holiday's to free up more cap sapce so they can try and lock down Corey Perry in a long-term deal. I mean you can't blame him for that, Perry is one hell of a player and will be a big part of the future of the Ducks.

sounds to me like he was threaten to get the LeClair treatment:

When asked how the deal unfolded and why he waived his no-trade clause, Weight said: "I just don't feel like I want to comment on that. It is what it is ... Over the last 15 years, I've developed a pretty good reputation and I'm an honest person. I have no need to leave this city throwing mud, you know. I'm not going to comment on how it went down. If somebody asks me, I'll tell them ... and I guarantee my teammates and friends will know exactly what happen."

Blues President John Davidson said: "Dougie is a proud guy. He didn't bail on his teammates. He didn't waive his no-trade clause because he didn't want to be here. He waived it for the right reasons, to go to Anaheim and get a lot of ice time. There's no way in the world that Doug would leave his teammates with that feeling. This was a hockey decision that we went to him with and he eventually wound up accepting."

Dougie Weight is a UFA next year, so one year on a contender isn't the worse thing to waive a no trade clause over, is it?

A change of scenery might put some jump back into Weight's game. He's always been one of the premier playmakers and I can't see why he couldn't get some of that back.

Wow, look at JD the businessman. Who knew he had being a Dbag in him. I remember watching a show after Weight had won the Cup in Carolina and was back with the Blues where he said he wanted to finish out his career there and hoped to bring them back to being a contender. JD just nixed that idea. I guess Dougie didn't realize his move would be the help they think they need to be a contender.

yep, dougie bled for the blues. he's had a rough start, but he's been a +4, which historically his +/- has been less than stellar. Its not like he's been a liability on the ice.

Dougie also is someone to have around a kid like bobby ryan, who has been recalled and can help show the ropes to as he comes into his own

Selanne coming back in mid February will only add to their playoff push, but I really don't think it'll be enough. Missing that much of the season is a huge handicap for any player. I have a lot of the Ducks on my fantasy roster, but I heavily doubt they'll see anywhere near last seasons success.
