vapor xxxx skates

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I recently got a pair of vapor xxxx skates and the length of skates is good (toes feathering caps), however the new toe cap lets my toes move a little more on the side and up and down. The old toecaps of bauer were more a narrower on the sides.

I have a few blisters underneath some toes and I'm wondering if they are due to:

1- the extra movement with the ergo toecap

2- the grip footbed

Has anyone experienced this problem, what do you recommend I do?

Thanks

I actually have sort of the same issue. The pinky toe on my right foot is rubbing the outside causing it pain. They're still new so hopefully once they break in, it'll go away.

my friend has blisters the size of baseballs on his toes and has the XXXXs, its pretty gross, he hasn't done anything to his skates though, outside of baking them, maybe a new footbed will help.

They don't fit.

yes me too the pinky toe is rubbing, did you try changing footbed to non-grip, like the grey pro foot bed? I am considering this

Didn't change the footbeds yet. Right now I'm alternating between the XXXXs and my old skates (Vectors - I know, not the same fit) I think once they break in, it will help the issue some what.

From my experience, I never had this issue on either of my pairs of XXXXs...but then they were the perfect fit and required no baking.

Before wearing, the only mod I made was to replace the insoles with Shock Docktors. I have never had a blister issue.

I also wear Wigwam socks, so do most of you go barefoot? It would make sense that barefoot with the grip insoles cause blisters.

Since its JUST the pinky at the toecap, heating this particular area and punching would do the trick.

Thanks for your advice, however I thought that punching was for pressure points, my problem is more a rubbing due to extra space. I don't see how heating would help?

I thought the toe rubs on the side of the toe cap...

I had an issue when I first got my XXXX to. Both my big toes were rubbing on the side and it created some blisters and such which kind of hurt. It was iritation right on the inside of the skate where the plastic of the toe cap and silver material of the skate meet.

Once I broke them in better they started to feel good. I don't have any problems any more. I think is was just an adjustment period.

Same experience as hoffla but it was only my big toe on my right foot. Dont have any issues anymore. Only took about 5 skates in them(for both pairs) the second pair I didnt even bother getting them baked.

I really don't know why they call that a 'Grip Footbed'. The one in my XXV's are the most non grippy things I've ever seen.

As for your blister problems, try wrapping your problem toes with stick tape or a band aid. Anything to buffer your toes from the friction. Also works wonders if your big toe rubs the side of the toecap.

You might also try some of that liquid bandage stuff, though I personally haven't tried it I've heard it works well. I bought a bottle today for a small blister I got from the tongue rubbing the top of my ankle bone. I hope to get a skate in tomorrow & give it a test run.

They are definitely grippy. I can't tell you how many times I've had to take off my skate because the footbed stuck to my sock and slid up into the toe cap... Very irritating.

I dunno, maybe the XXV's don't have the same as the XXXX but mine do say 'grip' on them. My feet slid around on those like crazy before I put my Superfeet in them.

Haven't had any issues with my XXII's. Put superfeet insoles in them the day I brought them home. Of course they have the microfibre lining not the grip lining like in the higher model XXV or XXXX so that may make the difference. Haven't had to heat mould them either, the fit was perfect right from the first time I pulled them on in the store. Haven't had a pair of skates that fit my this comfortably since I had a pair of Quest 5's years ago. The fit is very much like them. I really wanted the XXV's but just couldn't come up with the coin for them. Maybe I'll wait for a year or two and pick up a pair on special when the newer models come out in 08 or 09.

so does liquid bandage actually work for covering & protecting blisters effectively?

how else do you deal with these especially when they tear open & you still want to skate?

liquid bandage is essentially very watered down super glue...minus a few chemicals. Dermabond, the stuff they use in ERs, is exactly the same as Krazy Glue minus an alteration to one chemical. They're good to stop bleeding immediately and to keep the wound covered during healing but only on parts of the body that do not require much stretching of the skin. They don't work well on blisters, 2nd skin on the other hand works great
